Durham Birder : August 2012

http://jthompblog.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Monday, 27 August 2012. The weekend saw me reaching a nice little landmark, as I Ringed my 500th individual bird. The bird in question was a lovely little Robin, not a bird considered too special or exciting, but on this occasion it was definitely the bird of the day. On sunday evening I headed back to the Coastal Park as a Barred Warbler had been found in, of all places, our Ringing mound! Sunday, 12 August 2012. Or maybe it was coincidence. Who knows? I like to think they were Mr and Mrs though!

Durham Birder : February 2013

http://jthompblog.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 13 February 2013. I love wildlife. I love everything about it, including sharing it with other people. Its one of the greatest feelings in the world when you see the joy and excitement on somebodies face when they see something wonderful for the first time, especially when you have a little hand in making it happen! Laura was absolutely delighted to see the Owl, and to get such good views! Friday, 8 February 2013. A NICE TRIP TO INDIA. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). BIRD SPECIES RINGED - 53.

Durham Birder : Goa Trip 2 - BONDLA

http://jthompblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/goa-trip-2-bondla.html

Sunday, 24 March 2013. Goa Trip 2 - BONDLA. Anyway, Bondla is a protected forest in the foothills of the Western Ghats. Its 8 square kms in size, not huge but big enough to spend a good couple of hours exploring. This mainly involved driving slowly along the road and stopping every once in a while in a ' good looking spot'! The only photo Arup managed to get of the MUGGER CROCODILE before it slipped away. All the photos are by Arup Banerjee and used by kind permission. 30 October 2013 at 10:52. A must re...

Durham Birder : March 2013

http://jthompblog.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 31 March 2013. Goa - ONE LAST TREAT. The day before we came home, myself and Maria had an excursion booked via the tourist rep under the rather extravagant name of ' Island Cruise' . It wasnt quite as grandiose as it sounds, but it was definitely a fun way to end our holiday. We were picked up in an old-style fishing boat and headed toward the open sea for the first part of the trip, Dolphin spotting! It was incredibly fun, and I caught a couple of lovely little tiddlers, but it soon got even mor...

Tuesday, 30 October 2012. ISLES OF SCILLY - AGAIN! Myself and John returned to the Scillies again earlier this month but this time it was for a full week. Unfortunately it rained pretty much every day but there was no way we were going to let that spoil our week! Monday, 29 October 2012. NOT JEALOUS AT ALL! Adrian had yet another superb week last week Ringing some absolute beauties while I was stuck at work (not that I'm bitter or anything! Monday, 1 October 2012. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Sunday, 30 September 2012. This is easily the best Moth I have seen in the last few weeks, a truly stunning species. A lot bigger and a lot more colourful than I was expecting. A RARE DAY OUT. On the 15th of this month (I know, I haven't updated for a while - again! I had one of those rare days where I had nothing on so I went out and actually looked at wildlife! Monday, 28 May 2012. WHITE WINGED BLACK TERN. Yesterday I had a little trip down to Teesside, the first time I've been down that way for ages! A gorgeous White Winged Black Tern had turned up at Saltholme, and as I was doing nothing in particular I decided to pop down and see it. The bird was picked up immediately on arrival, mind you it helped that Stevie Howard was watching it in his scope when I pulled up! SPRING SEASON AT AN END. Sunday, 13 May 2012. And so, as the time approached 8.00am I went u...

Experiences on my travels. Friday, 24 July 2015. A few additions since the last post. The lure of the pier and Shields beach seems to have taken over again the last couple of weeks or so. No idea why? The tern action here on the visits I've had so far hasn't been exceptional to say the least, hopefully that will change in the near future if this area is blessed this year. Two Arctics on the beach on the 14th. only one's I've seen rested here so far. This female Banded demoiselle also put in a show. Anothe...
