You Also Might Want to Know. Monthly Archives: November 2014. You might have seen my facebook post yesterday, but in case you had. More important things to do. Here’s a recap:. Unfortunately for me yesterday, those six crispy pieces of cinnamon toast also represented the last bit of bread we had in the house. Get your clothes on, y’all! We’re going to Dunkin Do–. But before I could finish yelling instructions, they appeared before me dressed from head to foot. Did someone say Dunkin Donuts? The kids are ...

You Also Might Want to Know. You Also Might Want to Know. What is a birthday thing? A birthday thing is a thing I love [as opposed to a thing I hate]. See, I hate. But talking about the things I hate [shocker! Doesn’t make me feel good. Well, it might make me feel good for a minute, the way trash talking sometimes does, but then it always ends up making me feel bad. What I’ve figured out in the last four years of writing Birthday Things is that. Is why I keep writing. I hope you’ll keep reading. The Expl...

You Also Might Want to Know. See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are. Years ago, when I was a young high school teacher, I had a kid in one of my classes named Daniel. I don’t remember his last name, or really anything else about him except a conversation I had with his mother at Parent-Teacher conferences. I was frustrated with his behavior in class, which I characterized to his mother as aggressive. But to a mother, assertive.

You Also Might Want to Know. Don’t Save the Stickers (and other thoughts for the New Year). I’ve had this thought floating through my head for a few weeks now. Don’t Save the Stickers. It started as a whisper– a gentle suggestion from somewhere in the sane part of my mind. But it has become more of a chant. Don’t Save the Stickers. Don’t Save the Stickers. Don’t Save the Stickers. So I’m about to admit something to you. Because once the stickers are used, you can’t get them back. It’s such a. I’m l...

You Also Might Want to Know. A little over a month ago, Lee’s sister Kaylan came home from DC to visit for a few days. She came over one afternoon because Mary Bullock had been begging Aunt KayKay to paint her nails. So, while I was making dinner, Kaylan was with the kids, and the next thing I knew, Tucker had lavender nail polish on his toes. He was. I said WITH ICE! Diapers need changing, lunches need making. My car is still a rolling trash can. The thing is– I’m thinking about my dad. ...Like this: My...

You Also Might Want to Know. You might have seen my facebook post yesterday, but in case you had. More important things to do. Here’s a recap:. Unfortunately days like this are not all that rare, except that I’m not usually going out of my way to make my kids cinnamon toast. That was a special treat because we had run out of frozen waffles. But the fact that I broiled them to a perfect shade of black would not be very surprising to you if you have ever spent a morning in my house. The Monster at the End ...

You Also Might Want to Know. Monthly Archives: December 2014. On Advent and The 8 Ball. When I was little, I’d always overhear my dad and my Uncle Van use the term. Behind the eight ball. What does that mean? Even when I learned the basics of pool, I couldn’t quite grasp its meaning. You’ll understand when you’re older. Was their standard response. At the time I thought that meant that they would. Behind the eight ball. There’s no such thing as perfect, and to end the age-old debate, you really. I had or...

You Also Might Want to Know. Monthly Archives: June 2015. On my tribe and MOPS. Mary Bullock did not approve of this plan. She cried. And she cried. And she cried. The more I bounced her and swayed her the madder she got, until I finally took her into the nursery and cried myself, hot with embarrassment over my total ineptitude as a mother. My friend Laura, a “veteran” already with a three and a five year old, came in. Give me that baby. And this is how it was when Mary Bullock was a baby. The word.
