Stronsay is an island in Orkney, Scotland situated to the North of the British Isles. Stronsay is part of an extensive group of Islands where the Atlantic Ocean and North Sea meet, known as the Orkney Islands. Stronsay's shape is irregular and its name originates from the Old Norse for Star Island. Stronsay is one of the inhabited islands in the Orkneys. Pronounced Stroan-see: ON Strjonsey. Although most of the island is farmland, the large headland of Rothiesholm is mostly moor, thus there is a large variety of habitat and feeding areas for wildlife. Stronsay harbour is arguably one of the safest in Orkney, having sheltered anchorages and deep water alongside the piers, the harbour is approached via a dredged channel. The school is also another main employer with about 50 pupils from nursery age to 16, the children also have the option of attending Kirkwall Grammar school from the age of 13.

One not taken from the car - this Wood Warbler in an island garden on 11th May. But there again this one was.
