The Buchans 2008: April 2008

http://thebuchans2008.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, 5 April 2008. We had the caravan serviced on Thursday 27th March and we were away on the Friday. It's not that I don't trust the servicing agents, but it's nice to check that it still works. We left in foul weather and Di the next door neighbour saw us off with her good wishes ' You must be mad going in this weather'. Thanks Di. Saturday morning was still cold and damp, but we managed to get out. Here is Sue at the Old Gaol in Steeple Ashton a lovely old village. Jean, Graham and Sue. Graham an...

The Buchans 2008: The Purbecks - Tailpiece

http://thebuchans2008.blogspot.com/2008/10/purbecks-tailpiece.html

Friday, 24 October 2008. The Purbecks - Tailpiece. The rocks here were once the floor of a deep, tropical sea rich in pre-historic life. They formed in the Jurassic period, 155 million years ago. You don't have to look to hard to find fossils in the rocks. This photo was used to claim an Earthcache (for geocaching.com). The fossil is an ammonite. Lunchtime on Studland Beach. The Buchans 2008: Cirencester - November 2008

http://thebuchans2008.blogspot.com/2008/12/cirencester-november-2008.html

Tuesday, 2 December 2008. Cirencester - November 2008. The Romans invaded England in 43 AD and built a fort on the site of Cirencester (Corinium). Soon a civilian settlement grew up nearby. The soldiers in the fort provided a ready market for goods made by the townspeople. The Roman fort was dismantled around 75 AD. St John Baptist is one of the largest parish churches in England and has been a place of Christian worship for well over a thousand years. The cache is on this line. The picturesque Arlington...

The Buchans 2009: January 2009

http://thebuchans2009.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 6 January 2009. New Year - 2009. This is the first geocaching outing of the year with many of the neighbours young and old! As you can see it was a good turnout in very cold weather. Bailey the dog had done himself some mischief (ripped a paw), a couple of days before, and was confined to barracks. The Holmes and Jackman families and Sue. Lucy with a member of the Taliban. Another outing into the forest on an even colder day. The white edges are ice. The giant sequoia in all its glory.

The Buchans 2009

Tuesday, 29 December 2009. Christmas Day with a difference. Following my visit to the hospital I was expecting my next appointment in 5 weeks. On the 23. Dec I was contacted and offered an appointment on Christmas Eve (cancelled appointment? After this 2-hour visit, for the removal of sun damage, I left with 5 stitches and various pieces of sticking plaster holding me together. That evening we had our Christmas meal so we could have festive sandwiches on Sandbanks beach on Christmas Day! The 2010 blog ca...

The Buchans 2010

Wednesday, 29 December 2010. Early December took us to the first of our Christmas festivities. We went to lunch with our Portsmouth friends. I won’t list everyone since you know who you are. We’ve had some very interesting weather this December as has the rest of the UK. Here is a photo from one of the better days. Ponies on Rockford Common. Peter and Sue -  chez nous. Then the snow came for a second time. View from the bedroom window before the rush hour began. I went back to bed. Ringwood in the snow.

The Buchans 2011

Sunday, 1 January 2012. Year End - 2011. In early December we visited Jean and Graham for lunch in Marlborough. We were also joined by Jennie and Neil. All of us, except Jean and Jennie, had been at school together in Surrey. Jean, Jennie and Stuart. Sue at lunch, with our Portsmouth friends, at Eastney Cruising Association (ECA). Christmas Lunch, chez nous, with Jane and Ron. A lovely day. Thanks. We were quite busy over the Christmas period with very enjoyable visits to the neighbours. We like the Cara...

The Buchans 2012

Friday, 21 December 2012. In and around Ringwood in early December we had quite a lot of flooding close to the River Avon. Unfortunately, the river flows close the town centre so quite a few properties were affected. Here you can see ponies on the meadows struggling to find something to eat. Flooding across the meadows. Ponies by the gate. Flooding in the Bickerley. Making the most of a sunny day – a walk around Mill Lawn, north of Burley. It was very wet and wellies were a necessity. Joy, Sue, Sue, Sybil.
