The Buchans 2009

Tuesday, 29 December 2009. Christmas Day with a difference. Following my visit to the hospital I was expecting my next appointment in 5 weeks. On the 23. Dec I was contacted and offered an appointment on Christmas Eve (cancelled appointment? After this 2-hour visit, for the removal of sun damage, I left with 5 stitches and various pieces of sticking plaster holding me together. That evening we had our Christmas meal so we could have festive sandwiches on Sandbanks beach on Christmas Day! The 2010 blog ca...

The Buchans 2009: March 2009

http://www.thebuchans2009.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 22 March 2009. Oxford - March 2009. Let's hope this outing with the caravan doesn't end up with a pile of snow and a return trip to collect the caravan. We stayed on the caravan site at Redbridge. In the vicinity is also one of Oxford park and rides which we used everyday especially when we have our free bus passes. Here's Sue are on the first afternoon, the sun's out so all is well. The last lock on the Oxford canal before the River Thames. River Thames or Isis. This is a section of the A40 whic...

Tuesday, 29 September 2009. Weston-super-Mare - week 2. Below is the lighthouse on legs. It was built in 1832 to complement the tower lighthouse in Burnham-on-sea. The lighthouse has a focal plane of 7m and provides a white flash every 7.5s plus a directional light (white, red, or green depending on direction) at a focal plane of 4m. The light is shown through a window at the front. It remains an active aid to navigation and is visited by many thousands of walkers every year. Love me tender,. We stayed a...

The Buchans 2009: August 2009

http://www.thebuchans2009.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, 30 August 2009. August Bank Holiday was dark, damp and dismal so what’s new! On the Sunday Sue and I decided to go and watch the hovercraft racing at Gang Warily near to the Fawley oil refinery. I have wondered for some time where the name ‘Gang Warily’ had come from so for this blog I have found out and copied it here. Many years later part of this land was sold to Fawley Parish Council and in 1986 Gang Warily Recreation and Community Centre was built and opened to the public. Not the best way t...

The Buchans 2009: Littlehampton – November 2009

http://www.thebuchans2009.blogspot.com/2009/11/littlehampton-november-2009.html

Monday, 16 November 2009. Littlehampton – November 2009. The town began as the Anglo-Saxon village of Hampton. The name Little Hampton was given to it in the fourteenth century by sailors in order to differentiate it from the larger Southampton. The port was a royal dockyard of Henry VIII; a quay was built here in the 1670s. Littlehampton Redoubt was built to guard the town in the 1750s. Sue outside the Lifeboat Station on the River Arun. This is a view from the retractable footbridge. Our plot on the ca...

Saturday, 27 December 2008. The weather on Christmas Day was exceptional, with bright sunny weather, unfortunately the temperatures remained low. Here is Sue on Christmas Day with everything done and dusted for lunch. Jane, Ron and Margaret joined us for lunch and we all had a great time. The Buchans 2010

Wednesday, 29 December 2010. Early December took us to the first of our Christmas festivities. We went to lunch with our Portsmouth friends. I won’t list everyone since you know who you are. We’ve had some very interesting weather this December as has the rest of the UK. Here is a photo from one of the better days. Ponies on Rockford Common. Peter and Sue -  chez nous. Then the snow came for a second time. View from the bedroom window before the rush hour began. I went back to bed. Ringwood in the snow.

All of us, except Jean and Jennie, had been at school together in Surrey. Jean, Jennie and Stuart. Sue at lunch, with our Portsmouth friends, at Eastney Cruising Association (ECA). Christmas Lunch, chez nous, with Jane and Ron. A lovely day. Thanks. We were quite busy over the Christmas period with very enjoyable visits to the neighbours. We like the Cara...

The Buchans 2012

Friday, 21 December 2012. In and around Ringwood in early December we had quite a lot of flooding close to the River Avon. Unfortunately, the river flows close the town centre so quite a few properties were affected. Here you can see ponies on the meadows struggling to find something to eat. Flooding across the meadows. Ponies by the gate. Flooding in the Bickerley. Making the most of a sunny day – a walk around Mill Lawn, north of Burley. It was very wet and wellies were a necessity. Joy, Sue, Sue, Sybil.

Saturday, 21 December 2013. Year End - 2013. I’ve been out moving my geocaches around and this photo is from Bratley Wood, New Forest, where one of them is hidden. Near Bolderwood, New Forest. A Sunday morning turned into a real adventure. Two ponies helping me repair a puncture. There’s a really long story to this photo, but there just isn’t space to write it all down. I did get it repaired eventually. Stuart, Geoff and Glyn. Sybil, Joy and Sue Geoff and Glyn. Sue and Joy Sybil and Sue Jones. As you can...
