The Dad House Garden. Gardening among wildlife in Virginia. Why The Dad House? Close Encounter of the Dangerous Kind. Friday’s heavy rains left the ground saturated so Saturday I contented myself with pushing the wheelbarrow around the yard, deadheading what I could reach from the grass and doing some random pruning. Some saplings growing by the well caught my eye so I grabbed my pruners and headed over. Luckily, this caught my eye and stopped me short. June 7, 2012. Why The Dad House?

It Bloomed! « The Dad House Garden

https://thedadhouse.wordpress.com/2010/03/01/it-bloomed

The Dad House Garden. Gardening among wildlife in Virginia. Why The Dad House? Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Jelena’. It’s planted next to the driveway so I see it every time I come or go in my car. My strategy is to fill that area with early bloomers and plants with winter interest in the hope that it will lift my spirits with the promise of spring. It works. There’s just something about seeing flowers at the end of February! March 1, 2010. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

The Dad House Garden. Gardening among wildlife in Virginia. Why The Dad House? Today is Garden Bloggers Bloom Day, but most of my gardens are so thoroughly covered in snow I can’t see anything, but the tip of the highest branches. Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Jelena’ offers a small beacon of hope and the promise of soon. February 16, 2010. 2 Comments ». I’ve always wanted a Hamamelis, but never found the right spot. That one looks wonderful – and not too yellow🙂. February 19, 2010 Reply. Why The Dad House?

Martha's Garden: July 2007

http://marthagarden.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 19, 2007. Mama and I chose this plant and several others from the Farmer's Market (a very nice retired school teacher was selling) and we failed to get her to write down the name. By the time we got home and got everything planted, neither of us could remember what it was! It bloomed for the first time last week, and I'm so happy with what I think is Coreopsis tinctoria (golden tickseed). A happy surprise. Sunday, July 8, 2007. We returned from a week in San Miguel de Allende late Friday n...

Martha's Garden: Breaking ground

http://marthagarden.blogspot.com/2010/04/breaking-ground.html

Friday, April 2, 2010. I like this swing just there. Even when it was the dance floor, I'd set my bookbag down after school, sit down, and lean back to watch all the wildlife in the live oak behind our house. Everyone promises me this hasn't happened since a similarly cold winter in 1958, so I'm hoping we've seen the one bad winter in 50 years. Its so exciting to see what youre up to and read your plans! Cant wait to see what you put in! April 3, 2010 at 5:09 PM. Me, too, Becky! April 4, 2010 at 1:51 PM.

Martha's Garden: June 2007

http://marthagarden.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 26, 2007. Dahlias and more dahlias. The package called this one "Sight of Summer" but I'm not finding that variety online. The Connecticut Dahlia Society. Website claims there are as many as 40,000 named varieties of dahlias. Some of them are pretty hideous to me, looking more like plastic flowers than real flowers, but some of the forms are so elaborate that you can't help but admire them! Saturday, June 23, 2007. The hollyhock is adorable! Caroline is looking into climbing hydrangeas, so ...

This Fall (or when the humidity dries up). Brush in woods cut back again. Coreopsis in the front bed moved back from the sidewalk. Grass removed from the Kitchen Garden and replaced with newspaper and pine needles. Rose removed from patio trellis. Trees that are dead and sick in the yard cut down. So far these are safe.

Martha's Garden: Naming things

http://marthagarden.blogspot.com/2009/05/naming-things.html

Saturday, May 16, 2009. Inspired by Becky and Caroline, I am going to work hard at learning the real names of plants in my old and new gardens! After doing a little sleuthing, I think the tall, nearly blindlingly yellow plant in our garden, a pass-along from Jan, is in the Primrose family: Oenothera pilosella. Not totally sure about this, but it sure bears a strong resemblance! It is certainly categorized as a weed, particularly in this NYT article. But I've never had any trouble controlling its growth.

Martha's Garden: May 2008

http://marthagarden.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 26, 2008. The Allium giganteum made the most beautiful display - profile, really - in nearly every garden we saw. Like just about everything else in our garden, they bloom in May/June, but I'm determined to have some! Here it appears under an arbor of Laburnum. We saw cotoneaster used all kinds of ways and it now seems like the perfect plant to me because it blooms in spring, has beautiful berries in fall, can cascade or sprawl - I loved it beside the stairs at Snowshill Manor. Meanwhile, the...

The Dad is in | Not your traditional homemaker

The Dad is in. December 7, 2009. 8212; by thedadisin @ 7:39 pm. My wife and I were in London recently. I tagged along on the tail end of her business trip. It was great! I opened the photo album and inside were pictures of our daughter and me, and even a few of our dog. My wife told me she never leaves home without it and she looks at it often when she is back at the hotel room after a long day of meetings while on business trips. I immediately felt better. I appreciate your interest. October 19, 2009.
