The Dishes Will Wait

The Dishes Will Wait. While I sit down to clear these thoughts from my head. Saturday, March 14, 2015. Excerpts from The Forever Journey, by Diane Lisowski. March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. Recovery from traumatic brain injury is a long and winding road. Citing statistics is definitely eye-opening. An excerpt from my unpublished book, The Forever Journey. The Dishes Will Wait: '68 Firebird

http://thedisheswillwait.blogspot.com/2011/01/68-firebird.html

The Dishes Will Wait. While I sit down to clear these thoughts from my head. Saturday, January 22, 2011. 8220;Look at his drawing, Mom. Isn’t it good? He loves old cars.”. Yes, the drawing was good. It was very good. 8220;Go show your dad,” I told Mickey. She grabbed his arm and pulled him over to the display that hung on the wall in back of the high school gym. 8220;Look at this one, Dad,” she said. He went on with more details. 8220;Yeah, I put a 428 in it.”. I remembered that it went pretty fast.

The Dishes Will Wait: The Wreath

http://thedisheswillwait.blogspot.com/2009/12/wreath.html

The Dishes Will Wait. While I sit down to clear these thoughts from my head. Sunday, December 6, 2009. Although I’d turned my head and glanced at the wreath every time I left the driveway, something inside me could not bear to take it down. Not yet. The wreath was just one of a few Christmas decorations that never made it back into the box that January. The January that my life stopped in its tracks. And because of that, I couldn’t take the wreath down. I just couldn’t. I prayed for a Divine intervention.

The Dishes Will Wait: Off To College

http://thedisheswillwait.blogspot.com/2009/08/off-to-college.html

The Dishes Will Wait. While I sit down to clear these thoughts from my head. Tuesday, August 18, 2009. Reprinted from August 28, 2008 - in honor of all the moms letting go as their kids pack up and head out to college. Oh my gosh, I thought we would never get going because he waited until the day before to pack. That night when he was wandering around aimlessly, I made him a little checklist. Good thing I did, because he would have forgotten his alarm clock. You guessed it, he is very shy. So shy in ...

The Dishes Will Wait: The Smokestack

http://thedisheswillwait.blogspot.com/2011/07/smokestack.html

The Dishes Will Wait. While I sit down to clear these thoughts from my head. Thursday, July 7, 2011. 8220;Wanna drive by yourself? 8221; Dad asked back in ’68. 8220;No, I can’t! 8221; I cried. 8220;Sure you can.”. My legs were jelly. My hands were flopping. “No, no, I can’t.”. But Dad let go of the wheel despite my begging him not to. 8220;Whrrr…whrrr,” went the whistle. The official holding the red flag batted it up and down. A rope and tape measure revealed the results. On a Saturday afternoon in Downs...

The Dishes Will Wait: A Lie From Day One

http://thedisheswillwait.blogspot.com/2010/12/lie-from-day-one.html

The Dishes Will Wait. While I sit down to clear these thoughts from my head. Sunday, December 5, 2010. A Lie From Day One. 8220;Ma’am, excuse me but I don’t think you filled this out correctly,” the black-haired gentleman with glasses of the same color called out to me as I sauntered away from the counter. My faced turned habanera pepper red. I slung my purse back up over my shoulder and took two steps backwards. Hmmm … I thought I had filled out the renewal form correctly. Eyes – hazel. Check. 8220;Ma&#...

Sunday, May 18, 2008. Lisbon definitely takes the award for creepiest first impression. You know those movies with the dimly lit hotel and a slightly odd attendant and creepy music playing in the background – the kind of hotel that usually attracts zombies? 8211; yeah, well minus the music, this place was the inspiration. Monday, May 12, 2008. Looking back on things, it seems that I’ve – with the exception of Florence – failed to mention any of the daytrips we’ve taken. There ...The town of Altea was a s...

The Dishes Project

Sunday, May 15, 2011. I grew up in the suburbs, and unsurprisingly there was a mall in the neighboring town. I spent the most time at the Rave clothing store and in Waldenbooks. Both of which have long since gone out of business. The place to go for your best 90's style was Contempo Casuals (bought out years later by Wet Seal. And they had a giant screen behind the check-out desk where they played music videos. I do get a special kick out of Teachers. Since it's a list song. Thanks, Stephen Sondheim.

The Disheveled Catholic Mom | An Incredibly Blessed Life

An Incredibly Blessed Life. The Disheveled Catholic Mom. Discovering the Joy in Parenting. Disheveled comes to mind when I think of parenting. Hence my blog title. It’s not the tidiest gig in the world and it certainly can be humiliating to some extent. There is no paycheck involved and, most of the time, no praise. Parenting can be lonely. Boring. Monotenous. And just plain tiring. Above that I wanted more than anything to prove to everyone I was a good parent. I will admit, I have stretch marks all ove...

The Disheveled Parent | Parenting in the city (and apartment) that never sleeps

Parenting in the city (and apartment) that never sleeps. May 28, 2015. Would you judge me if you knew? Would you judge me if you knew I was the woman thinking ‘. Shut your kid up’. Would you judge me if I told you I used to feel children had no place at restaurants? What would you think if I told you I used to think children who had temper tantrums were the product of overly lax or weak parenting? Would you judge me if I said I used to think only lazy parents let their kids watch television? I was a very...

The Disheveled Theologian – Finding God in the everyday moments of life

Finding God in the everyday moments of life. On a chilly morning early one spring, seconds after I waved good-bye to my husband and kids on their way to work and school, I received a text from my son. Pls get pics of moon! Dad says good camera not phone. Oh, that’s right, I thought, glancing out the window, There’s an eclipse. And a blood moon to boot, whatever that means. Before I had time to remember what, exactly, that did mean, I received another text. And discovered that the door was locked. In the ...
