An excuse to write, hoping others will read. August 24, 2014. Newsflash to American Christians (including myself) LIFE IS NOT ABOUT YOU. Christianity is not about us. The Bible was not written just for this generation. Our faith is not about us. Mission work is not about us. God was not made for us, we were made for Him. It is so easy to make Christianity about us. One of our favorite questions to ask of the Bible is, “Ok so what does this mean to ME? I was supposed to feel Him at every moment right?

An excuse to write, hoping others will read. August 2, 2014. For those of you who have been following along, you know that this is not really my story–it’s God’s. He led my trip leader to call me on that lonely day in the mountains of Tennessee. He led so many people to generously support me prayerfully and financially. He led my manager to give me time off without question. He led me to help lead worship and minister to the missionaries and high school students. He led me to respond. So what happens now?

An excuse to write, hoping others will read. July 28, 2014. The journey home…. Divergent (liked it. I read the book early in HS and really enjoyed it, but I am usually skeptical of books-turned-bestsellers-turned-movies. Nevertheless, it was a good start to my plane ride.). 10 Things I Hate About You (Mindlessly entertaining one of those classic chick-flicks I hadn’t managed to see before. It was enjoyable.). The Little Mermaid (Always good.). Frozen (Still great, though I was dozing in and out here).

An excuse to write, hoping others will read. Back to the Drawing Board. August 13, 2014. One of the hardest things about being home from Japan is trying to explain what I did, who I met, how it all worked, and how it has changed me. Most people ask the question, “So. How was Japan? 8221; Oh I don’t know, how was 24 days of your month of July? Alright I’ll climb off my soap box on this one; I just needed to explain my difficulty in answering THE question. 2 thoughts on “ Back to the Drawing Board. Fill in...

An excuse to write, hoping others will read. January 17, 2016. Here are words I have often penned in my prayer journal. I share it, because I think maybe someone needs to read it. Perhaps so, perhaps not. But if you are the one who needs it, know this:. He is here, He is with you, and He loves you. Oh God I believe, help my unbelief. God, I want to grow. I’m stubbornly reading and writing and yearning and talking and thinking and trying to. Myself into feeling your presence again. I want to. When I can f...

Poetry Isn’t Just for April | Common Chapters: life changes

https://commonchapters.wordpress.com/2015/04/30/poetry-isnt-just-for-april

Common Chapters: life changes. The truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it. Flannery O'Connor. Poetry Isn’t Just for April. April 30, 2015. Sometimes I see it as a straight line. Drawn with a pencil and a ruler. Transecting the circle of the world. Or as a finger piercing. A smoke ring, casual, inquisitive,. But then the sun will come out. Or the phone will ring. And I will cease to wonder. If it is one thing,. A large ball of air and memory,. Or many things,. Let us say it is a field.

Common Chapters: life changes. The truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it. Flannery O'Connor. April 9, 2015. Have you noticed that the broad spectrum banally labeled ‘social media’ grows rife with boldly claimed opinions masquerading as “urgent news”? Don’t misunderstand, please. I tweet. I’m on Facebook. I get most of my new recipes from Pinterest. But how crucial are my strongly held opinions to anyone else? Charles Dickens would have died an unknown if he’d tried to write h...

Common Chapters: life changes. The truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it. Flannery O'Connor. April 8, 2015. I watch and listen for awhile. Coffee at my fingertips, pup at my feet. Flashes of light. Rolling thunder coming after. One. Two. Three. Rumble rumble rumble,. Why do we bother with the rest of the day,. The swale of the afternoon,. The sudden dip into evening,. Then night with his notorious perfumes,. This is the best. Throwing off the light covers,. Feet on the cold floor,.

August 25, 2016. 8220;Expect the unexpected.” Life proves the adage. Literature proves it as well, because, as we all should know by now, written words mirror the way life goes. Common Chapters: life changes. The truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it. Flannery O'Connor. April 6, 2015. When no more words are forthcoming, one would think that ‘the end’ has arrived. No real need to announce it, methinks. But what about poetic expressions? Can the grammatical rules be broken? Can the words mean more than what we first encounter? Can a twenty-first century blogger effectively use a sixteenth century ‘methinks’? Can these and other language crimes be withstood?

Little Lady with a Little Mind

Little Lady with a Little Mind. The Plough, Pyecombe – Sunday Roast Review. April 14, 2015. This weekend was the sort of weekend you don’t want to be lying in bed watching films and snoozing. Sunday was the sort of day you woke to the sunlight streaming through your curtains and the birds chirping away. And to me that’s not the sort of day you should be wasting. Nestled on the foot of the downs, and just off the A23 you have Pyecombe, a small village with beautiful views and a stone’s throw away from the...

themusingsofkathryn | An excuse to write, hoping others will read.

An excuse to write, hoping others will read. July 7, 2015. Where has the care gone? Perhaps if we started living like Jesus did, that would change. Perhaps instead of pointing fingers and throwing the Bible at people, we should read it first. Maybe we should read verses like 1 Corinthians 5:12 which states, “What business is it of mine [Paul] to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:...

The Musings of Kristen Nicole

On May 12th, I was let go from my job. It's amazing how time has been flying by. The first week I ran some errands I had been putting off and frantically searched job sites. I had two interviews the week I was let go so I was sitting on the edge of my seat. Needless to say I received good news - I have a job again! It has always been my dream to work at Balboa Park and now I do. I am extremely excited for the next adventure in my life. Where does the time go? Saturday, May 31, 2014. Writing for your blog.

I remember thinking how important it was to be wary of people you didn’t know.
