This Earth day: ban the bag | The Thrifty Tree-Hugger
https://thethriftytreehugger.wordpress.com/2012/04/20/this-earth-day-ban-the-bag
How to help the environment the cheap, easy way. April 20, 2012. This Earth day: ban the bag. We all do it. We all have that hidden stash of plastic bags on bags on bags. We stuff them under the sink, in the pantry, in vacant drawers, and eventually find a way of disposing them some way or another. But a group trying to “ban the bag” has a point when they say: there is no “away.”. Seeing as Earth Day is. I urge each and every one of you to take a step towards banning the bag. 1) Stop using them. Sure, it...
Environmentalists can be happy too. | The Thrifty Tree-Hugger

How to help the environment the cheap, easy way. April 13, 2012. Environmentalists can be happy too. As an environmentally conscious individual…I’m pretty bummed out a lot of the time. I’m constantly subjected to stories. So today, I’m going to switch it up and give props to some amazing MEDL (in case you don’t remember this acronym from earlier, it stands for the “Mother Earth Defense League”) accomplishments. The city of Linköping, Sweden, has begun the construction of a vertical greenhouse. Analyzes a...
Compost made easy…kind of | The Thrifty Tree-Hugger
https://thethriftytreehugger.wordpress.com/2012/03/30/compost-made-easy-kinda
How to help the environment the cheap, easy way. March 30, 2012. Compost made easy…kind of. As April quickly approaches, and little green buds begin emerging from their frost induced slumber, I feel it only appropriate to spend some time talking about something all environmental gardeners love: compost. It’s free, it’s great for gardening, it’s great for the environment, and ultimately a royal pain in the ass. If you didn’t know, composting is pretty. More in-depth directions here. If you’re feelin...
Why everyone should be an environmentalist | The Thrifty Tree-Hugger
https://thethriftytreehugger.wordpress.com/2012/04/26/why-everyone-should-be-an-environmentalist
How to help the environment the cheap, easy way. April 26, 2012. Why everyone should be an environmentalist. Out of sight, out of mind. The way most of us think about environmental issues. If consequences and environmental problems don’t noticeably impact our daily lives, they don’t really exist…right? Most of us don’t live surrounded by garbage. Struggle to meet our basic needs. Or live through devastating. Natural disasters, so why spend time worrying about them? 2 There are a ton of freaking people on...

The Thrifty Traveler
Thursday, December 22, 2016. Mendocino has been on my list for a while, but due to the distance (about a 3 hours drive) it kept getting pushed to the back burner in lieu of closer destinations. That was until a couple of months ago when we decided to heck with it! Sure it's a long drive, but it's also an adventure, and we were very much in need of an adventure. So we woke the kids up at 6am, packed them into the car and we were off! Grabbed some drinks at Flying Goat Coffee. The staff at Catch a Canoe we...

Tracking my adventures around the world, while trying not to go broke. Friday, September 6, 2013. Muay Thai Fight Night. After several days of being handed flyers for Muay Thai boxing, I decided to give it a shot on my last night in Chiang Mai. I bought the VIP ticket for 600 THB ($20), 200 THB more than the regular, so I could enjoy ring-side views at Thapae Boxing Stadium. I bought the ticket at my hotel, and as an added bonus it included transportation to the stadium in a tuk-tuk. However, the guy nex...

TheThriftyWiffy | Resourceful Working Momlife
Oh my goodness. I’ve been seriously slacking in the blog department. The last month and a half has been absolutely crazy. Can you believe that Thanksgiving is next week already? This is actually the first year in a few years that I’m not hosting Thanksgiving. My mom wanted to host this year at her house which actually works out wonderfully with everything we’ve had going on. Since my mom is hosting, my contribution will be the green bean casserole and the cranberry sauce. Main Course and Sides. I’m plann...

Here’s what I used:. 4 TB olive oil, divided. 2 cloves or 1 heaping teaspoon minced garlic. 5 oz chopped kale. 15 oz can of garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed. 176 oz. package of gnocchi. 3/4 cup vegetable stock. 24 oz jar of marinara sauce. Here’s what I did:. Heat 2 TB of olive oil in a large sauté pan. Add garlic and stir for about a minute. Add kale. Back to the kale pan…Once your kale is nice and tender, add the marinara sauce. This sauce is delicious and only costs $1! Stir to combine and simmer.
