Thinking Through Our Fingers. Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers. – Isaac Asimov. August 14, 2015. September 7, 2016. Well, they had the challenge. And as usual, the old man took time about once every few hours to sit and sharpen his axe. At the end of the day, the young man was astounded to learn that he’d lost. The old man knew that to be the most effective, he had to keep his instrument sharp, and his body rested. Write a transcript, so to speak, of a conversation between yourself a...

Thinking Through Our Fingers. Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers. – Isaac Asimov. So, you want to write articles. August 10, 2015. September 7, 2016. When I started out writing articles nearly three years ago, I had no idea what I was doing. Really. But, I started to improve by reading other people’s work, studying the proper formats, compiling more ideas to write about, and, of course, practicing, revising, and practicing some more. 1 Come up with a thesis. Start thinking about possib...

Thinking Through Our Fingers. Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers. – Isaac Asimov. A Writer’s Guide to Online Contests. August 7, 2015. September 7, 2016. For aspiring writers, there are several different ways to connect with agents (and editors) to represent your work. By far the most common is cold querying (which, contrary to what some believe, does work. You can meet agents at writing conferences (I did)–and you can participate in online writing contests. 2 Meet other writers. One o...

Thinking Through Our Fingers. Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers. – Isaac Asimov. August 3, 2015. September 7, 2016. At the beginning of the year, I went to a book signing with Holly Black. Someone asked a question about her writing process and she said she would frequently get ideas, then brainstorm with her group to figure out where to take the story. But the thing that stuck with me wasn’t that she did this, it was that she said she rarely used any of their ideas. A couple months ag...

A Bowl Full of Cherry's: March 2015

http://janacherry.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

A Bowl Full of Cherry's. Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Katie made this awesome "Pin the tail on the cougar" for her BYU themed birthday party. She also made an awesome treasure hunt for the others where they found the cake ingredients and we spent Sunday morning decorating. She's so fun! Matty models her new jammies. The girls had fun making and playing with marshmallow fondant. Ally did an especially awesome job on the cougar, I think. Thinking really hard about her wish. Proof that I shared, once or twice.

A Writer's Notebook | My Notebook

http://davilynatwood.blogspot.com/2016/11/a-writers-notebook.html

Tuesday, November 15, 2016. Yes I do. There is just something wonderful about grabbing a pencil and a notebook and starting to write. As I begin to write, ideas just start to flow, I get inspiration from somewhere, I am not always sure where, but it is almost magical. I am a bit of a notebook nerd. I love notebooks (oh ya I already said that) and keep notebooks on all kinds of things. Big ones, little ones, fat ones, thin ones, well you get the picture. Journals of all kinds. Notes on books read. I am a ...

Writer's Need To Read | My Notebook

http://davilynatwood.blogspot.com/2016/11/writers-need-to-read.html

Thursday, November 17, 2016. Writer's Need To Read. How in the world can a writer expect to write good, if he doesn't like to read, or doesn't take the time to read? How would you ever know you were a good writer or a bad writer if you didn't know what good or bad writing was all about? I don't know if it matter's much what you like to read, just read! My boys love reading today! Oh the places you'll go.". Go read a book. Pick up a pen and paper, and see where you go! Thursday, November 17, 2016. My life...

Friday, November 18, 2016. The Memory of Story Telling. I admire my kiddos, who are not kids anymore! I have several, out of the six, that can sit down at any moment and tell a story, and make it up as they go along. I could give them pretty much any random topic and an hour later they would have told me an incredible story. That is a talent, I wish I had! So get out there and tell stories. Tell them. Write them down. Draw them out. Make those memories of telling stories, because years fr...Subscribe to:...

Friday, November 11, 2016. What do you do when you run out of ideas? I have spent a lot of time putting together notebooks full of ideas, binders full of ideas, and files on my computer full of ideas. The nice thing about that is you never have to run out of ideas to write about. I absolutely love pinterest. For finding topics and ideas to write about. Whoever designed it was genius. Reading Aloud | My Notebook

Sunday, November 20, 2016. Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites. And those series that would captivate them for hours. Sometimes, it literally was hours that I would sit and read, and they would sit and listen. No wrestling around, no running, they would just sit and listen. Then the whining stopped when I quit for the night, usually because my throat was hoarse. For quite a few years, this was our family time. Part way through my journey of reading aloud, I came across a book called "The Read Aloud Handbook".

Saturday, January 30, 2016. 100 Things I Love. I came across a challenge to see if I can come up with 100 things I love in my life. Deal! Here goes, not in a specific order. 2 my children and grands, including the in-laws. 4 a good night's sleep. 5 running water - inside the house, like flush toilets and tap water. 6 running water outside - like a creek gurgling. 8 herbs in my body and in the garden. 9 transportation - walking everywhere would get old fast. I so love camping. 12 camping - love, love.

15 Escapes | My Notebook

Saturday, December 19, 2015. As I sit down to tell you about the 15 escapes I would love to indulge in, I must admit it was harder than I thought to find 15 of them. And honestly they are not in any order at all, just escapes that I think would be fabulous. Here goes: First off, I must say that Italy holds a few of my escapes. I love Italy and could knock off a few of them in one big trip. 4 I really want to do some Balsamic Vinegar tasting in Italy. I want to visit some of the cellars that are curin...

Am I A Writer? | My Notebook

http://davilynatwood.blogspot.com/2016/02/am-i-writer.html

Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Am I A Writer? Have you ever wondered if you are a writer at heart? Do you have what it takes to write? I have thought of this often, and still do. I always wonder why I do it, since I don't really make much money for the amount of hours I put into it. Is it worth it to me? What are some of the traits of a writer? What makes me a writer? Do I dream about writing? Most definitely. I dream that some day I will actually get to do it as. Do I love to read? I must admit I am ther...

Thinking Through My Lens

Thinking Through My Lens. It’s so easy to break a good habit, even after it has been well established. When I started this blog, I wrote daily for months on end. Of course, I did it because I knew if I stopped (and I was afraid to stop for even one day), I would have a hard time getting back on track. I guess I was right. This week, my friend and colleague Kevin posted a prompt on the NWP iAnthology. I could do that. It rained quite a bit on Monday, but it had stopped by the time I left work. Knowing...

Thinking Through My Lens. Weekly Photo Challenge: Underfoot. As I walk along the shoreline, I can feel the grains of sand under my feet. Along some stretches the sand feels smooth, almost like quicksand where my heels sink in the sponginess of the saturated surface. The sandpipers see this place as their seaside restaurant, poking their long beaks deep into the sand for a meal. Sometimes that sand underfoot can be scooped up to create magnificent castles, complete with moats and and a seashell flag on top.

Thinking Through Scripture | "but the word of the Lord remains forever"

But the word of the Lord remains forever. July 30, 2015. The Truth about LUST. When you are in lust mode, you are not seeing a human being with goals, purpose, and intrinsic worth. You are seeing a means to satisfy your craving. You are seeing a tool that you can use to accomplish a task. A selfish, demeaning task. Lust does terrible things to you and others. How many people have been raped, killed, dehumanized, insulted, cheated, abandoned, impoverished, evicted, fired, and used because of lust? He also...
