                        Friends Not Food: July 2013
http://veggiemax.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
I Love Food and Animals! Saturday, July 27, 2013. Banana Bread Pancakes with Chia Reduced Maple Syrup and Chocolate Chips. Ready for a super indulgent breakfast that isn't quite as bad for you as it look? I started with My New Root's Gluten Free Banana Bread Pancakes. 1/3 cup coconut milk plus 1/3 cup flax milk instead of nut. Extra 1/3 cup oatmeal, not pureed, added to the batter since it was too thin for my tastes. No maple syrup in the batter. Seemed sweet enough to me, especially with the topping.
Friends Not Food: February 2012
http://veggiemax.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
I Love Food and Animals! Wednesday, February 22, 2012. I found this recipe via one of my new favorite sources: Pinterest. The idea of replacing bread with veggies, while still eating something as indulgent as pizza, immediately caught my eye. The original recipe calls for cauliflower, egg, and cheese to form the crust. I didn’t like the idea of putting cheese in the crust, however. Then all I’m doing is replacing bread with fat, albeit fat with protein. I decided to go for the middle ground. 1 egg, beaten.
Friends Not Food: August 2012

I Love Food and Animals! Wednesday, August 1, 2012. Perfect Meal Plan Week 3 and Beyond. I've made about a dozen recipes from the book so far and all of them have been delicious. I even relented and tried a recipe containing my arch nemesis: nutritional yeast. The book explained that the yeast has a cheese-like taste, which is why it is so commonly used in vegan recipes. As long as I think of it as just another seasoning, it doesn't bother me as much. Seven Secrets Cookbook, by Neva and Jim Brackett.
Friends Not Food: Vegan Fig Bar Comparison

I Love Food and Animals! Saturday, September 14, 2013. Vegan Fig Bar Comparison. Barbara's Bakery Fig Bars, Whole Wheat. Newman's Own Organics Fig Newmans, Wheat-Free/Dairy-Free. Barabara's Bakery (left) vs Newman's Own (right). Love that Barbara's is fruit juice sweetened, but wish it were organic like Newman's. Visually, Newman's are very smooth and dense, while Barbara's are more crumbly and homemade-looking. Closing your eyes helps you taste them better. Just ask Rachel. Vegan Fig Bar Comparison.
Friends Not Food: Milk Alternative Taste Test
http://veggiemax.blogspot.com/2013/02/milk-alternative-taste-test.html
I Love Food and Animals! Sunday, February 24, 2013. Milk Alternative Taste Test. I don't find much of a difference baking with fake "milk," but drinking it plain is another thing altogether. Rachel kindly agreed to help me out with this little taste test. Ready for our "game.". Rachel took her taste testing task very seriously. Here are our contestants and results of the second more thorough taste testing. 1 Almond Dream Almond Milk Original. Rachel: "Mmmm, good." She drank the rest of this one. Rachel: ...

The List: #50 Take a Cruise - Done!
http://bucketed-life.blogspot.com/2012/08/50-take-cruise.html
50 Things I want to do Before I Die. Saturday, August 4, 2012. 50 Take a Cruise - Done! When I got an invitation to go on a bachelorette cruise, I jumped at the chance. Not only did it satisfy #50 on my list, but I got to know a friend better, make some new ones, and step outside my comfort zone. After a panicked renewal of my passport, we were off to Canada on a bus. View of the docks from the ship. The cruise ship was ridiculously ornate, in a fun way. Bench by elevator on each level.

Childhood Part II: November 2012
http://crumpled-uppromise.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Having a kid is a great excuse to stop acting like an adult. Thursday, November 29, 2012. I'm determined to have Rachel love Christmas as much as I do! She doesn't remember much about last year except for the tree, which is admittedly one of the best parts. I decided to make a countdown chain with her to build up excitement and found quite a few learning opportunities in the process. Step 2: Make Christmas special. I had Rachel decorate a card stock strip with stars stickers to represent Christmas day.

Having a kid is a great excuse to stop acting like an adult. Saturday, August 18, 2012. Rachel and I stumbled across an old playground just off one of the nature trails only a 5 minute toddler walk away from our house. Unfortunately a tree had fallen on it and it was filthy from misuse. Fortunately it was not structurally damaged and with a little TLC could be made useable again. Playground - Day 1. Rachel - Cleaning the Slide. No need to bring Brandon or a saw. Mold on the Playground.

Having a kid is a great excuse to stop acting like an adult. Wednesday, June 6, 2012. The long stretch of rainy weather has been forcing me to expand our normal indoor activities. A huge source of fun is the bath tub. We can play until baby toes are wrinkled and the water is getting cold: a good hour, which is very long in the toddler attention span. Our first game involved chasing colored ice cubes around the tub. Source: http:/ www.mommysavers.com/2010/09/frugal-bathtime-fun-for-baby/.

Better Not Worse: February 2012
http://betternotworse.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
They say marriage is for better or worse. Well, I choose better. Saturday, February 11, 2012. I believe that the key to a happy home is the proper balance of individual, couple, and family time. It is hard to find that balance with two working parents, opposite sleep schedules, and a little one to watch. So I implemented bi-weekly family dinners, a weekly mini date night at home after Rachel goes to bed, a big monthly date, and a weekly family outing. We had our supplies in hand. Snacks: check. Nothing s...
