Genre Awareness and Displacement. The problem is, the scenario (prompt from the last page) asks the students to debate whether a particular text should be appropriate outside of an academic setting. Book 3 of Aristotle’s. Conner’s piece that I had mentioned on the first page of this project mentioned that writing, or the school or writing instructor or composition, tried to gain legitimacy by borrowing from the hard sciences, yet these genres function far differently than writing courses.

I am going to provide a brief narrative that situates part of my argument, this is “not” academic, yet this genre of writing (hyper-text essay) is meant to encompass a larger audience in which such conventions might be welcome*). To break away from the traditional hierarchical model of learning (Platonic model really), in which the instructor maintains complete control of knowledge production and standards, I decided to assign works that bridged the gap between expressivist writing and academic writing.
