Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Punctuation Full of Purpose. Explanatory materials, while parentheses are used to downplay. Those same materials. I now realize that every time I used parentheses in the past to expand on an idea, the use of dashes would have been more effective at conveying the importance of the additional information to the reader. Friday, May 28, 2010. This class has really helped me to become aware of what I can do with my writing. There is more to writing a paper than just putting your thoughts on paper. The writer, I now see, can take the time to use grammar and punctuation to emphasize or highlight certain content without the reader being able to notice.
