Cooking Through the Clippings: Turkey Stock
http://cookingthroughtheclippings.blogspot.com/2016/12/turkey-stock.html
Cooking Through the Clippings. Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Good stocks are always welcome items in my freezer. They couldn't be easier to make. They may take time, but there is always a good day to mark on your calendar to spend comfort time in the kitchen. Turkey stock is the champion during the holiday season. It can be used for gravies and soup bases. This year I used turkey necks, wings and legs. Everything gets rubbed in oil, salted and peppered. The stock is now ready for freezing. Pour into fo...

Cooking Through the Clippings: December 2014

Cooking Through the Clippings. Saturday, December 13, 2014. Chewy Salted Oatmeal Cookies. A blog that I regularly read and enjoy is The Bitten Word. With all of my other holiday baking I've been doing I was grateful to have been assigned a easy recipe. This is your basic dry ingredients combined with your creamed butter/sugar/egg mixture. What makes these really special is the little dibby dabby garnish of fine crystal sea salt. I decided to use my 1 tablespoon cookie scoop to make 2-1/2" to 3" cookies&#...

Cooking Through the Clippings: Butternut Squash Soup with Sea Scallops and Shrimp
http://cookingthroughtheclippings.blogspot.com/2016/11/butternut-squash-soup-with-sea-scallops.html
Cooking Through the Clippings. Tuesday, November 1, 2016. Butternut Squash Soup with Sea Scallops and Shrimp. Butternut squash is used a lot in our house. Soup is a staple. I've tasted many deli cious. But ternut squash soups that are more on the sweet side, using apples , cinnamon and nutmeg . This one is a more savory recipe garnished with scallops and shrimp. It's really easy; the majority of the labor is in chopping all the vegetables. Discard the bouquet garni. Ladle into soup bowl, garnish and enjoy.

Cooking Through the Clippings. Saturday, December 26, 2015. Potage Crécy (Cream of Carrot Soup). The reference of Crécy in the name of this cream soup (potage) is to Crécy-en-Ponthieu; a region in Northern France that is famous for growing, in their opinion, the most tasteful carrots. The area is also know for a battle in the fourteenth century in which England kicked some French butt. Anyhow, the French generally refer to cream of carrot soup as Postage Crécy. Walker but other than that. So, with that p...

Lucille gave Lovey and me. A basket of dried fruit for Christmas. It had dates, apricots, papaya. Peaches, prunes,. Pineapple, and angelino. As you can see, there aren't enough dates for a loaf of b read so I thought I'd make a bread with a combination. I chopped up about 2 cups. Of the fruit combo. The flour an...

zestybaker | Food as I make of it
Food as I make of it. My first attempt at a child’s birthday cake – Dora the Explorer. There are quite a few mistakes with this cake, but I wanted to give everyone a starting point for what I have done with birthday cake making. Some of the things I learned when doing this cake. 1 Make sure you have enough time before the cake has to be delivered! I worked my tail off right up until we walked out the door to go to the party. 2 Only use a little bit of dye when you start coloring your icing. As you ca...

Who's Your ZestyBear?
I guess I must be wishing, on someone else's star . Saturday, May 28, 2005. Posted by Jimmy at 7:22 AM. Tuesday, May 24, 2005. I pack my lunch everyday to work since I am on a diet. I also pack my roommates lunch since she is on the same diet. Well I began to pack mayonnaise in a little baggy, so we can have it on our diet wraps every afternoon. She finds the sight of this mayonnaise disgusting even though she likes the taste of mayonnaise alot. Posted by Jimmy at 5:56 AM. Monday, May 23, 2005. Bringing ...

Foodie experiments of a hopeless cook | My CMS
Posted on July 22, 2015. Bull; 0 Comments. I’ve just moved house. Well, when I say just,it was a few months ago, but it still all feels pretty new to me. And, much more importantly, I’ve not had a house warming party yet. I know, I know! It’s not right is it? I think mostly it’s because I’ve moved to a new area. I don’t really know anyone around here and I am a bit shy. …. Though I’m thinking maybe a house warming BBQ would be a good idea. But what to cook? Burgers. I love burgers. I love that th...I don...

September 16, 2013. Quick mango pickle/ Kalyana maangai ooruga. Wishing you all a very happy Onam :-). Its the fag end of mango season, yet, I got these mangoes which tasted similar to kili mookku manga (translation: Parrot nosed mango). Bangaloora, Totapuri are the other known names for this variety. It has a sweet yet mildly sour taste, a brilliant aroma and is usually used for making manga thokku and pickle, apart from eating as bedhai (long slices) with salt and chilli powder.
