Birding Across the World. Sunday, August 2, 2015. Massachusetts Big Day 2015—24 May. Left to right: Luke Seitz, Ian Davies, Peter Trimble, Tim Spahr. On May 24, 2015, four crazed birders set out on an attempt to exceed the Massachusetts Big Day record: 195 species, set last year in 2014. Did we surpass that number? Did we have fun? Even though I have not managed to get find time to write this account until over two months after the fact, the memories are still fresh in my mind. The team this year was com...

Birding Across the World: May 2014

http://birdingacrosstheglobe.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Birding Across the World. Monday, May 26, 2014. New Massachusetts Big Day record – 24 May 2014 (195 spp). Listening for flight calls and nighthawks in Pittsfield at 3am. Left to right: Peter Trimble, Vern Laux, Luke Seitz, Ian Davies). We drove slightly over 600 miles, with our primary goal of getting 200. Although we fell short of the 200 mark, we managed to surpass the prior record of 193, only by two species! Coming from the depths of a swampy riverine area in Sheffield. Flight calls were still pu...

Birding Across the World: January 2010

http://birdingacrosstheglobe.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Birding Across the World. Sunday, January 3, 2010. From Quebradas to Quetzals. Up at five the next morning, our goal for the morning was to hire a car to take us to Quebrada Upaquihua, a name that had evolved in our minds to Quebrada Oompa-Loompa, but we luckily never slipped up and called it that to the locals, not that they could find us any crazier than they already do. Arriving at the coopertivo area, we tried one group of people for hiring a car, and they wanted 250 soles for a half day! Driving alo...

Birding Across the World: August 2009

http://birdingacrosstheglobe.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Birding Across the World. Thursday, August 27, 2009. Me with a Red-shouldered Hawk. First off, my apologies for not updating this for, well, almost six months. I don't really have an excuse, I've been around and had time, but I just never quite got around to it, and I'm sticking to that story. For anyone who wants to see whales, Captain John Boats. I also made a few trips out to Western Mass, which was amazing, some really cool birds breed out there, and the habitat is like you're in northern New Hampshi...

Birding Across the World: October 2012

http://birdingacrosstheglobe.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Birding Across the World. Friday, October 26, 2012. Shot of camp again - the photos in this post consist of some of my favorites of the season. The nature up there was out of this world, both at the Canning and then in our post-trip to the Kenai Peninsula. We only had 70 or so species of bird at the field site on the North Slope, but some of them that I talked about above, such as Spectacled Eider or Buff-breasted Sandpiper, are truly special. Thursday, October 25, 2012. We stopped a couple places en rou...

Amy and Ian's Most Excellent Ecuadorian Adventure. From November to January 2009 this blog is about our travels in Ecuador. Friday, April 3, 2009. I've received many questions about cameras and I thought I'd try and answer some of them here. Fausto in particular wanted to know about my camera versus Ian's camera that Ian used to take the wonderful bird shots on his Picassa photo album. We both purchased our cameras online, Ian from B and H Photo. 1059 just for the lens at B and H. My lens is by Sigma, no...

Ian and I arrived safely at Yanayacu biological reserve yesterday, but my was it primitive! That I expected, well maybe not quite such basic facilities, but there weren't any people staying here except for us and a rather keep to himself Polish man. Amazing to me, that's for sure. Friday, September 27, 2013. Just a few of the beaches I've been lucky enough to spend time on this summer. Birding beyond Sunset: June 2010

http://birdingbeyondsunset.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 6, 2010. NW Tanzania - Bukoba via Biharamulo to Rwanda. The road soon reverted to bush road again as I approached Biharamulo Game Reserve and the thought of a potential very long driving day ahead I tried not to stop to often. Not too dissimilar from the road I'd taken north at the start of my trip through Kamisi Game Reserve. The few sightings were good though with a couple of Common Kestrel. Dive-bombing an Augur Buzzard. And a Lizard Buzzard. Posted by Marcell Claassen. The migrant - M.

I'm on a mission to visit all of the birding and wildlife trails of Texas. Nine maps.953 sites.this will take awhile. Sunday, December 21, 2014. Leaving San Luis Pass, I drove the Bluewater Highway to Surfside. It was very windy and the birds flighty. I tried to get photos of the birds I saw on the lines, but as soon as I slowed the car they flew off. Even the European Starlings were difficult to photograph.
