Friday, October 16, 2009. Thursday, October 15, 2009. This weeks readings covered the subjects of research, evaluation and sponsorship. While there are many different ways with which to conduct research it is always important to conduct some form of it. Research helps to define the problem, without which there is no way to determine the best course of action. Neither can any measure be established for defining success. Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Sunday, October 18, 2009. Ethics, Ethics, Ethics. Personal ethical boundaries present a major dilemma within the PR industry. There is an intrinsic difference between the ethical interests of people (employees) and the organisations they represent. At a basic level a business operates to serve the interests of its stakeholders, if the interests of these stakeholders are compromised by an ethical dilemma which set of guidelines are followed? Monday, August 17, 2009. An interesting point that I took from t...

Thursday, October 15, 2009. RISK CRISIS AND ISSUES. I have always wondered why organisations mostly use spokespersons, esspecially in time of crisis and this article answered that for me. Keep CEO's as a resever for either special announcements or corrections. This really stood out to me as a great tactic as if you bring them out first thing in a crisis and things continue to go wrong from there, then there is no one else higher up to reassure people. Sunday, September 23, 2007. Reserach and Evaluation in Public Relations. Before reading this chapter I understood that it is important to conduct research and practice evaluating this research in order to execute a successful public relations campaign. What I had not previously considered was the specific ways of going about acquiring information and the importance of selective choice of methodology dependent on the amount of information required and budget restrictions. Who is the public? Strategy, Plan...

Thursday, October 15, 2009. Week 10: Risk, Crisis, Issues and the Third Sector. This week’s reading revolved around management of risk, risk prevention and crisis management. Basically the message was that, where PR is concerned, prevention is most certainly better than cure. Apologies for that pathetic attempt at a joke. If the risk of Rich plummeting to his death while filming “Rebel Billionaire” was ‘managed’, aka. the whole idea was quashed, then ol’ Rich would soon ...Week 9: A Typical PR Plan.

Wk 10 - Crises in the Third Sector. I think the two key points to remember from this week's readings are that it is vital for companies to have a crisis plan and that the third sector, though well-meaning in nature, can also lead to deceptive undertakings by businesses. While most companies engage themselves in community ...
