Riveting Ideas: August 2013
http://rivetingideasbyrosy.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 23, 2013. Its Bacon. Its Jam. Its perfect! Seriously, I had my doubts about this one when I read about it on my FB feed, but I have a party tomorrow and I wanted to try something different from the usual fare. Anyway, you can go here. For the recipe, but just so you know I didn't follow it exactly (I know I'm terrible). Here's what I used:. 1 pound sliced bacon cut into 1-inch pieces. 1/2 large yellow onion, diced small. 2 garlic cloves, smashed and peeled. 1/4 cup cider vinegar. 2 Place t...

Riveting Ideas: February 2014
http://rivetingideasbyrosy.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 26, 2014. So not much posted in the last few months. Apologies but I GOT ENGAGED! Insert hearts and smilies here*. So since november I have: gotten engaged, set a date, found a dress, found a venue, determined a menu (note to self email that woman back! Planned a cake and bouquet. All on a budget. Under $4000. So breaking away from the whole food thing for a bit. Wedding on a budget. Sounds like a bummer? This has lead to a whole host of beer and brewery themed wedding planning. E...

Riveting Ideas: September 2013
http://rivetingideasbyrosy.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 20, 2013. So its been a rough couple of weeks around here since the seasons creeping crud made it into the house. The good thing is it has made us want some comfort foods. For me that turned into Baked Potato Soup. So once I could drag myself around the house I made a bee line for the kitchen. Baked Potato Soup (the quick and easy way). 3-4 strips of bacon. 2-3 cloves of garlic. 2 tbsps of butter. 1/2c cheese plus extra for sprinkling on top for that extra little flare of yumminess.

Riveting Ideas: Mushroom and Shrimp Risotto
http://rivetingideasbyrosy.blogspot.com/2014/03/mushroom-and-shrimp-risotto.html
Monday, March 17, 2014. Mushroom and Shrimp Risotto. So we just got home from a day out. Where we totally blew our calorie counts. So I needed a meal that was filling, tasty, and low on calories. And quick. We were hungry. Solution? I was so hungry I forgot to grab my camera for the final pic, so this is from my phone. (Yeah sorry about that but this fat chick was starving, at least I remembered a pic though.). J (the future husband to be ( yay! So here's the grocery list:. 2 tbsp olive oil. Step 3: Add ...

Riveting Ideas: April 2014
http://rivetingideasbyrosy.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 14, 2014. Ok this post is a little late. But it has been a BUSY weekend! I've been home all of 24 hours right now as I type this. So what do we do on a monday to relax after a weekend of running around like chickens with our heads cut off? Why, popcorn and beer. Oooooohhhh. how. ordinary. Whatever. I don't do that in the microwave fake butter stuff. I do mine over the stove. With real oil! So How Do You Make This? Stick that on high heat and pour in 2-3 tbsp of kernels and slap that lid on&...

Riveting Ideas: FLUFFY STUFF!!
http://rivetingideasbyrosy.blogspot.com/2014/04/fluffy-stuff.html
Monday, April 7, 2014. Who doesn't love marshmallow fluff? In all its gooey, sticky, yummy, sugary goodness, it is just about the perfect piece of food ever. I feel bad. I didn't get photos of this one. But trust me, it looks like marshmallow fluff but tastes even better! We had to drive to my mom's this weekend, and since she's a fluff fanatic I was going to bring the stuff with me, but I forgot. *sigh*. So here I am writing about my favorite food ever without pics. Boo! On to the recipe! 1 Mix sugar, c...

Riveting Ideas: October 2013
http://rivetingideasbyrosy.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 25, 2013. Chicken and Broccoli Stir Fry. So the BF and I are considering a low gluten diet (we've discussed it at length, gluten free probably wont happen.) for various health reasons. Plus we might lose some weight. Bonus! So this week we went meat and veggie shopping and I set up a weekly menu. The amount of planning makes me head hurt. I am not a planner. I'm more of a "whats in the fridge that I can cook in ten minutes before I eat the plate" kinda girl. Chicken, cut into bits. 3) Cut...

Riveting Ideas: Scones!
http://rivetingideasbyrosy.blogspot.com/2014/03/scones.html
Monday, March 31, 2014. Scones, scones the magical treat, the more you make, the more you eat. Yum! Scones are one of my favorite treats. For anytime. We have a friend from across the pond who visits us fairly frequently. She likes to eat out. I like to eat in. I'm hoping someday I can convince her my food is as good as any restaurants. This recipe is just one weapon in my war against eating out. 1 1/4 c flour. 1/8 - 1/4 c sugar (depends on how sweet you like it. I went closer to 1/8). 5 Dump that dough ...

Riveting Ideas: Operation: Wedding Dress
http://rivetingideasbyrosy.blogspot.com/2014/03/operation-wedding-dress.html
Monday, March 3, 2014. Ok, lets get one thing straight. I am NOT a dress girl. I'm a jeans and t-shirt and something comfy kinda girl. Sure I like a little bit of bling on my shirts once in a while, but hey who doesn't. So what's a girl on a budget with a low key wedding planned supposed to do for a wedding? That's actually a really good question. 125 Not breaking moms bank with that fortunately. And my mom? But my mom still wants the David'd bridal experience, and you know what? Rainbow Smith Island Cake.

Riveting Ideas: Rainbow Smith Island Cake
http://rivetingideasbyrosy.blogspot.com/2014/03/rainbow-smith-island-cake.html
Monday, March 10, 2014. Rainbow Smith Island Cake. Looks kinda funky, doesn't it? Its ok you wont hurt my feelings. I made the icing a bit too thin, but we'll get there in a moment. Now here's the issue. I was sworn to secrecy on my cake recipe. So I can share it. But really you can use a regular box mix, just make sure you mix it till its kinda fluffy. But I can share the icing recipe which is as follows:. 2 Tbsp milk (add more 1 tsp at a time until its a creamy consistency). 1 tsp good vanilla. Next yo...

Just another WordPress.com site. September 30, 2016. Apple Crisp with a Twist. Bobby and Jilly like to go to farmers’ markets in and around the city but this week might be the last as the temps drop and frost threatens next week. Yes, the weather is changing rapidly in this part of the country. Fresh local veggies and fruit from the Okanagan filled their shopping bags – chard, tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, beets, and big crunchy apples, full of BC goodness and sunshine. Apple Crisp with Pistachio. Around ...

Sometime in the late 1970’s or early 1980’s my grandmother came up with a lemon cheesecake recipe. It was light and fluffy and a bit tangy. She tweaked it into the following:. 8 oz cream cheese. 2 large cans cream, chilled (Pet or Carnation evaporated milk). 3 small lemon Jell-O. 1 1/3 C hot water. Stir all together and pour into crust. May 22, 2016.

Experimenting with food, motherhood, and seasonal disorders. Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Headline: Minnesotan Travelled in Spain. Quiza It's the same recipe! What is it that makes the gazpacho in Spain taste so wonderful that a shot glass full of it as a tapa is enough to satisfy? I investigated. And, I came up with the only possible answer: the vinegar. It must be the specific type of vinegar that makes that concoction irresistible. I asked; they said, "Wine vinegar." Alas. Friday, August 5, 2011. Well,...

Sunday, July 12, 2009. I was craving the Best Noodles of Your Life. Today, so I tried to basically build a meal around that. I decided to try the Asian Chicken. From one of my favorite cooking blogs, For The Love of Cooking. I thought the chicken was good but for some reason it struck us a bit salty and I have no idea why. I used reduced sodium soy sauce and the recipe has no other salty indigents that I can tell. Maybe we were still feeling the effects of my salt potatoes from Friday. Rich people proble...
