Emily Hertle: Isabel Toledo: Fashion from the Inside Out

Tuesday, September 15, 2009. Isabel Toledo: Fashion from the Inside Out. Isabel Toledo’s exhibition at the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology(FIT) is very comprehensive. Her designs have themes of Organic Geometry, shadow, suspension, liquid architecture, shape, manipulated surfaces, and origami. The Cornflower Dress from Organic Geometry, I feel is the most striking. After finding this really amazing dress I, I wanted to look further and begin to understand the artist. She also is challenge w...

I find it very difficult as an artist to create works of art with a lack of motivation, but you have that. You obviously have a passion for materials, and fashion design, and that motivation will definitely carry you to create wonderful pieces of art and design. :). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Cva Blog: "La Promenade"

http://cva-oad-sectb-lampe09.blogspot.com/2009/09/la-promenade.html

Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Claude Monet is best known for his painting of water lilies. Yet I think that Monet's portraits of people are underrated. This piece painted by Monet in 1875 is titled "La Promenade." Out of all the pieces in Monet's collection, this piece I like the best. . Or is this just a shadow cast by a cloud? From first glance this painting is but a light scene in an open field, but when you look closely, much more is uncovered. . October 25, 2009 at 2:42 PM. Some of the impressionists...

http://cva-oad-sectb-lampe09.blogspot.com/2009/09/mining-mia.html

Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Pictures taken by Sarah Lampe at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. You walk into a room and see 5 art pieces each created by a different artist. The five pieces hung or placed across a solid white wall. The room is empty and bright, one red light is shown onto the artwork. The artwork is placed on the wall like in picture above. Cva Blog: "The Hill Upstairs"

http://cva-oad-sectb-lampe09.blogspot.com/2009/09/hill-upstairs.html

Monday, September 28, 2009. When I first entered the Midway Contemporary Art Museum I was bewildered by the idea that everything in the museum was considered art. Nothing made any sense to me. A box covered in string, a rather large steel star. What could all of this possibly mean? What could each artist have been thinking while creating such pieces? The Midway Contemporary Art Museum was certainly not my cup of tea, but I developed a great respect for the artists. I am not at all a contemporary arti...

Tuesday, October 13, 2009. The best example I found of a piece with strong FORMAL qualities was Christopher Wool's Drunk II. Http:/ media.walkerart.org/2692480.jpg. There was a piece that startled me to say the least. It was a peculiar find at first, and then it became downright disturbing the more I looked at it. While it was particularly offensive in some parts, it was completely intriguing and the vileness of it kept m. Y interest nearly the whole time I waProxy-Connection: keep-alive. I chose this pi...

I would say so, but perhaps my definition of "art" is more broad than others'. I wonder if the reason for all of the interesting textures and proportions has something to do with Diego's personality, the vibes one gets from him, or something about the relationship between artist and subject. GARGLE FARGLE

Tuesday, October 13, 2009. 5 pieces from the Walker. At the walker one of the pieces that I thought had a good formal quality was Lucio Fontana's. The line in this work is near perfect from what i could see. looking at it, it looked like a perfect cut in a canvas but it was actually painted. My reaction to this, at first i was like blah whatever it was kinda plain but when i was told about the interpretations around it with the man standing in the window then i was slightly disturbed. I don't. Slant/ligh...

Snooty Snooty Art Talk With Nunchucks

Snooty Snooty Art Talk With Nunchucks. Friday, November 13, 2009. MIA and the MIA. I recently went MIA at the MIA to check out the Asian collection. With some extra time on my hands before closing, I wondered into their Contemporary Art section. Like picking at the scab of skinned knee when I was a kid, I just can’t leave the modern art works alone. From room to room, I wandered. I tried to at first to really find some redeeming qualities in the works hanging around me. Eight rectangles, each a different...

A Series of Art. Friday, November 20, 2009. Artist Book of the Hat of Dr. Suess. Dr Suess, yes the famous Dr. Suess known for his crazy illustrations and children's books. In addition to that he created numerous prints and sculptures even. Currently there is a gallery on nicollet mall that is featuring him.
