CVA Blog: MIA Exhibition

http://www.cva-oad-sectb-basques09.blogspot.com/2009/09/mia-exhibition.html

Monday, September 21, 2009. As curator for the new museum, I, Samantha Basques, am putting a new spin on things and the meanings of the work. Selfishly, I am warping the true meanings of the artists' work, and I am putting music to each piece of artwork. For just a taste, I'll give you the first few rooms of the museum, each piece of work associated with the top songs on my music playlist. Coming to the third piece of artwork, your eyes will land on the simplicity of the red and blue graphically designed...

CVA Blog: September 2009

http://www.cva-oad-sectb-basques09.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 28, 2009. Hollywood Boulevard Gave Me What I Deserved. There was no image of this piece on the Midway website). What on earth was the creator thinking? If I was surprised at just that first room, imagine how the second and third rooms made my head feel. I saw giant blue rectangles and flat cardboard sculptures. I saw completely maelstroms of colors and shapes with no defined shape or meaning to them. How could I possibly make sense of it? And then I saw it. Monday, September 21, 2009.

CVA Blog: Art = Work

http://www.cva-oad-sectb-basques09.blogspot.com/2009/10/artwork.html

Monday, October 5, 2009. I chose this piece really because it displays a new outlook on the world of art as we know it. It's conceptual (something I'm trying very hard to come to understand), and it's message is clearly displayed. (YES! Something you don't have to stare at for six hours to comprehend! Then it takes a twist, and you notice that the syringe containing ART is being injected into the arm that contains WORK. Is ART neutralizing WORK? Is it accompanying it? October 21, 2009 at 8:50 PM. After a...

Thursday, November 12, 2009. Our Orientation to Art and Design class was given a "mental mapping" project to complete in a couple of weeks. The class was divided into four different groups. While every group created a product that was fairly successful, one map out. The rest.quite literally. The map that.remains "lit" in my head shows pieces of art at the Walker Art Center. These pieces of art are represented by L. Denoting female artists, blue lights. Even more, the map forces the viewer to think about ...

The Wise words of Monkey

The Wise words of Monkey. Thursday, November 12, 2009. LET THERE BE LIGHT! After our mapping assignment I decided the walker lights map was one that caught my eye as an interesting piece that raised several questions. Some of these questions I had the opportunity to ask during the final critique. The rest are newly formulated after looking at the piece again and again in recent days. So why are the proportions of lights the way they are? Overall I thought this was a well designed map. I SEE HAND PRINTS!

This is for my Orientation to Art and Design class. I'm not totally sure what will happen with it. View my complete profile. Monday, October 12, 2009. I would say so, but perhaps my definition of "art" is more broad than others'. I wonder if the reason for all of the interesting textures and proportions has something to do with Diego's personality, the vibes one gets from him, or something about the relationship between artist and subject. GARGLE FARGLE

Tuesday, October 13, 2009. 5 pieces from the Walker. At the walker one of the pieces that I thought had a good formal quality was Lucio Fontana's. The line in this work is near perfect from what i could see. looking at it, it looked like a perfect cut in a canvas but it was actually painted. My reaction to this, at first i was like blah whatever it was kinda plain but when i was told about the interpretations around it with the man standing in the window then i was slightly disturbed. I don't. Slant/ligh...

Though i have come up with the results. Vincent Van Gogh's classic, Starry Night. This painting has always been a favorite of mine since i was really young. Van Gogh had created this piece while he was in the care of a psychiatric center in France. Image taken from www.paintingsite.net/famous-paintings-renaissance.html). This piece i...

Snooty Snooty Art Talk With Nunchucks

Snooty Snooty Art Talk With Nunchucks. Friday, November 13, 2009. MIA and the MIA. I recently went MIA at the MIA to check out the Asian collection. With some extra time on my hands before closing, I wondered into their Contemporary Art section. Like picking at the scab of skinned knee when I was a kid, I just can’t leave the modern art works alone. From room to room, I wandered. I tried to at first to really find some redeeming qualities in the works hanging around me. Eight rectangles, each a different...

Tuesday, November 17, 2009. Finding a fashion designer that has shown at the. Monday, October 5, 2009. While searching Carlo Mollino’s apartment after his death, searchers found a drawer full of 200 polaroids or more, each picturing women in an explicit poses. None knew about the photos until then. Two of these photos were shown at the Midway during their show, The Secret Life of Objects. This series of two Polaroids are shown at eye level, framed, and approximately half an inch apart. Even though he was...
