The Wise words of Monkey

The Wise words of Monkey. Thursday, November 12, 2009. LET THERE BE LIGHT! After our mapping assignment I decided the walker lights map was one that caught my eye as an interesting piece that raised several questions. Some of these questions I had the opportunity to ask during the final critique. The rest are newly formulated after looking at the piece again and again in recent days. So why are the proportions of lights the way they are? Overall I thought this was a well designed map. I SEE HAND PRINTS!

http://www.cva-oad-potgieter.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

The Wise words of Monkey. Thursday, October 15, 2009. I SEE HAND PRINTS! The piece was displayed in a section of art called Gutiea(sp) which seemed to be art that reflected the chaos and pain of post WWII Japan. A few of the pieces in there, including the Schuttbild. Were created in part by having a performance on top of the canvas in the paint. (Hence the foot and hand prints). Wednesday, October 7, 2009. An interesteing day for the guy handing out cash. The Wise words of Monkey: An interesteing day for the guy handing out cash.

http://www.cva-oad-potgieter.blogspot.com/2009/10/interesteing-day-for-guy-handing-out.html

The Wise words of Monkey. Wednesday, October 7, 2009. An interesteing day for the guy handing out cash. October 8, 2009 at 9:52 AM. This is a good description of the basic facts of the piece. You mention the idea that a viewer might construct, but dont expand on it. The description might be more evocative if those elements were brought in. Also, you seem to have left out a description of how the piece was installed. Is it affected by the fact that it is placed on the ground, at a diagonal?

Gotta Catch 'Em All: October 2009

http://cva-oad-masog.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 29, 2009. The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters. Is Yinka Shonibare's version of Goya's The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters. Shonibare appropriated the iconic etching and gave it a contemporary art feel. The photo is of a white-haired man, not a self portrait of Shonibare like it should be if he were going to replicate the original, surrounded by realistic-looking owls and bat creatures moving in to attack him. Gotta Catch 'Em All: Mining the MIA

http://cva-oad-masog.blogspot.com/2009/09/mining-mia.html

Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Following after Fred Wilson's Mining the Museum in chapter three of Describing Art, our assignment was to choose 3-5 items from separate areas of the MIA (Minneapolis Institute of Arts) and describe an installation we might create. The installation is meant to challenge the viewer's assumptions about those works of art. The pieces I am choosing are the Allegory of the Four Elements. By Cornelis Jacobsz. Delff, the Virgin and Child in a Landscape. The Resurrection of Christ.

Wednesday, September 16, 2009. I'm not entirely sure if I understand this, but I'll give it a go. The assignment is to select a work of art and write at least one paragraph about it from a postmodern standpoint using ideas from chapter 2 in Terry Barrett's. So the work I have chosen is this: Werewolf Nesting Dolls. September 19, 2009 at 5:34 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Gotta Catch 'Em All. Gotta Catch 'Em All: Probably Not What He Was Going For . . .

http://cva-oad-masog.blogspot.com/2009/09/probably-not-what-he-was-going-for.html

Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Probably Not What He Was Going For . . . Last Thursday, we made the wonderfully confusing journey into Minneapolis and the Midway Contemporary Art gallery. While at the gallery, our assignment was to find a piece that was on display that sparked our interest and to analyze it here, on our blogs. As I'm sure you've noticed already, I am horrible at analyzing artwork. However, as this is being graded, I will keep trying! So, the piece I chose was Jeff Elrod's. So I had found ...

Wednesday, November 11, 2009. A New Take On Mapping. Right now. It's a temporary exhibition of ceramic works. Knowing that, it becomes even more clear that women were not involved in contemporary art as much as they are until a couple decades ago. I think that the method that the group chose to display their information is very creative and that it works well. The piece is eye-catching and visually appealing to look at. Also, the information could be interpreted in a variety of ways. Was an etching made ...

Thursday, November 12, 2009. Our Orientation to Art and Design class was given a "mental mapping" project to complete in a couple of weeks. The class was divided into four different groups. While every group created a product that was fairly successful, one map out. The rest.quite literally. The map that.remains "lit" in my head shows pieces of art at the Walker Art Center. These pieces of art are represented by L. Denoting female artists, blue lights. Even more, the map forces the viewer to think about ...

I would say so, but perhaps my definition of "art" is more broad than others'. GARGLE FARGLE

Tuesday, October 13, 2009. 5 pieces from the Walker. At the walker one of the pieces that I thought had a good formal quality was Lucio Fontana's. The line in this work is near perfect from what i could see. looking at it, it looked like a perfect cut in a canvas but it was actually painted. My reaction to this, at first i was like blah whatever it was kinda plain but when i was told about the interpretations around it with the man standing in the window then i was slightly disturbed.
