Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Trains, Cows and Lottery tickets. It's a 12 hour train ride from Moscow to get to Cheboksary, and one of my first thoughts looking out the window was "Russia has nature? Almost all of the time I've spent in Russia has been in Moscow and St. Petersburg, so when I think of Russia, I think of huge cities. I don't think of rolling hills, or forests, or fields stretching as far as the eye can see. I mean, there were cows. And I'm still in the same time zone as Moscow.

View From the Roof. My year in Arkhangelsk, and what happens next. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Newer posts →. For some reason, I have not been able to access my blog since I returned from Siberia — until now! That’s right, I was in Siberia! Many many posts are forthcoming about the train, the repeated shattering of my expectations in Kyzyl, the Access camp where I taught, and my reaction to the White Nights of Arkhangelsk upon my return (it wasn’t good)! Exhibit C: On Monday, I we...

Emily in Cambodia | Just another WordPress.com site

Just another WordPress.com site. Lee hai, Cambodia. March 11, 2011. I’ve been helping to organize a two-day meeting in Takeo province with all the farmers from the SRFI project. Part of that involved a business skills workshop, and guess who got to choose the topics, make up the presentation, and run the thing? Anecdote: We spent the night in a guesthouse in Takeo. Since Laura and Corinne were here, we splurged – I got a VIP room and I didn’t even have to share it. The best part? Be excited once I’...

Emily in Canada

Sunday, December 13, 2009. When I was searching for work in Peterborough, I was offered two jobs practically simultaneously. In my great wisdom, I decided to work both of them, and I have somehow managed to keep things together for the last 3.5 months, but now fear that I am quickly unraveling (just in time for Christmas). I thought I would share a snippet of conversation I had last night while cutting bread for a couple of buffets. It went something like this:. Ambidexterous," I said. Oh, for like what?

emilyincanterbury | Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. ~Emerson

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. Emerson. The Magic Never Ends. July 12, 2012. So here it is! I couldn’t help but tear up when we said goodbye that night, but everyone promised to meet Tricia, Laura, and I then next morning to send us off to London in our taxi. June 14th was the day I left Canterbury, and everyone showed up to say goodbye. I felt like I was just going on another trip and would be back soon enough. I really hope that I ...

Emily's Blog | A Blog About My Thoughts on Transition

A Blog About My Thoughts on Transition. October 15, 2014 • 5:38 am. Anything and Everything… Ambiguously! I am Emily. But at the same time there’s so much else going on in that head of mine. I’m not sure that one lifetime is enough to get it all sorted out! My friend visited from out of town last week. It was great to have a kindred spirit around for a little while even if he doesn’t fully understand who I am yet (how could he when I don’t even understand me yet! Filed under: Gender Identity. Un año de aventuras. Chronicles of a year abroad in Chile and Spain. March 29, 2012. Italia Here We Come! First of all, this is a momentous occasion. Why? Because I am updating my blog two days in a row! Nope, neither did I. But the reason for this blog post: I am going to Italy tomorrow! I certainly was smokin' hot! I was snowed in for the last 3 months and unable to communicate with the outside world. Haha. well, not exactly, but it sure felt that way sometimes.
