Grow It Eat It: 3/1/15 - 4/1/15
http://groweat.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2015. An introduction- to me and to quiche. Even just a few years ago, I wasn’t really into food or gardening. I used to subsist on mostly oatmeal and tea. I got hooked on growing food in 2009 between taking a plant biology course and interning at Great Kids Farm- and now I have multiple jobs in food and agriculture. I spend basically the rest of my time cooking and/or eating and/or thinking about what my next meal is going to be. Here's my basic method:. 1/4 cup water - iced. Cut up s...
Grow It Eat It: Grow100 2015 Update
http://groweat.blogspot.com/2015/08/grow100-2015-update.html
Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Checking in with a couple Grow100 participants! The Montgomery County Derwood Demo Garden has been experimenting with fava beans. The variety they are using is "Extra Precoce A Grano Violetto" from Baker Creek Seeds. Joslyn Read's report on the Fava Bean:. David Marcovitz checked in and described some difficulties his garden has seen this season. The deer ate the leaves off 4 of my 6 zucchini plants, just as they were starting to get some good zucchini. Something has been eat...
Grow It Eat It: 7/1/15 - 8/1/15
http://groweat.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 30, 2015. I brought home a tomato this morning (one of the smaller of my Rose de Bernes, which have been producing beautifully) which provides a classic example of sunscald, so I thought I'd share:. Sunscald (you can read more about it here. In this case, one of the branches of my plant wasn't sufficiently tied up, and fell to the ground, exposing the fruits to far too much sun. Usually the fruit is too spoiled to eat, so this one will be added to my compost. Links to this post. This Brand...
Grow It Eat It: A downy mildew resistant basil?
http://groweat.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-downy-mildew-resistant-basil.html
Wednesday, August 5, 2015. A downy mildew resistant basil? This is a guest post by Montgomery County MG Mary Anne Normile. Until last week ‘Eleonora’ had appeared to live up to its billing. I had seen no evidence to date of basil downy mildew in the plants in the 100 Square Foot Garden, where they are closely planted, or in other garden locations, where they are more widely spaced. As the disease progresses, the undersides becomes covered with the gray spores and the leaves eventually turn brown and drop...
Grow It Eat It: Joe the Gardener: Still Resting on His Hoe Handle after 68 Years
http://groweat.blogspot.com/2014/11/joe-gardener-still-resting-on-his-hoe.html
Thursday, November 13, 2014. Joe the Gardener: Still Resting on His Hoe Handle after 68 Years. No one’s ever given me a horse, so I’ve never looked a gift horse in the mouth. But recently a friend gifted me with a copy of. A paperback collection of wisdom compiled by the Men’s Garden Club of Montgomery County in 1969, and on a cold November night, with snowflakes falling as a cold front approached, I picked up the deteriorating paperback and took a look. Rogue Eggplant: The many colors of June
http://rogue-eggplant.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-many-colors-of-june.html
Sunday, June 14, 2015. The many colors of June. The June landscape is less riotous than that of April and May, but I've still got a near-rainbow of flowers to report for Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day. I don't see any red out there, but there's orange:. And also the orange ditch lilies peeking out behind the blueberries:. Speaking of which, let's jump ahead to blue, and away from flowers for the moment:. Mm, blueberry season. Other daylilies besides Hemerocallis fulva. More yellow in St. John's Wort:. The la...
Rogue Eggplant: Spring intensifies!
http://rogue-eggplant.blogspot.com/2015/04/spring-intensifies.html
Saturday, April 25, 2015. Despite chilly temperatures this week, spring continues to progress, so what the heck, let's have some more flowers! My favorite daffodil, Yellow Cheerfulness. A little epimedium hiding away in a corner. Way too much celandine poppy. Baby clove currant blooming! More daffs - I think Bridal Crown? So many daffodils right now. Viburnum 'Mohawk' in bloom - we need Smellovision here. Polemonium that is bluer than this really. Dwarf rhododendron in bloom. I Am Sure You Mean Well.
Rogue Eggplant: December 2014
http://rogue-eggplant.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 15, 2014. No flowers to share for GBBD this month (though we do have shockingly-colored shiny balls in the magnolia branches) but it is the time to start going through the seed catalogs that are quickly accumulating, and this year instead of putting lots of sticky notes on the pages I'm trying out a preliminary wishlist on my Pinterest page. Other things to do, aside from look through more catalogs, and take inventory of the seeds I already have:. Labels: I Have A Cunning Plan. Find more...

A Diva Who Traded Her High Heels for a Kitchen Garden. Tuesday, June 19, 2012. Admiring Plants In St. Croix, VI. Greetings from St. Croix, VI. I left my garden and decided to spend a week soaking up the sun in St. Croix, VI. My brother is tending to my garden. I pray that everything is living when I return. St. Croix has not disappointed! Aloe - Perfect for my sunburned back, ouch! This plant is huge as you can see. It's about 4 feet tall and growing. Coconut Palm. The coconuts are cut down for guest...
A Diva's Garden: June 2013
http://adivasgarden.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
A Diva Who Traded Her High Heels for a Kitchen Garden. Saturday, June 29, 2013. Here's a few of my visitors. The squirrels were the first to visit of course. They will sit and eat until they're about to explode. A peck on the window will send them away if they get too greedy. The blue jays haven't found it yet. In the second picture, they are feeding where I had the feeder originally. A cardinal and his mate have found it as well. Do you feed the birds? What backyard visitors do you get? There's conflict...
Rogue Eggplant: May 2015
http://rogue-eggplant.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 14, 2015. Blooms on a cool day in May. We're having a break from the heat, so it's lovely to go out and look at the flowers. Happy GBBD! If you want to see what bloomed in the interim between April 15 and now, check out posts here. And here's what's blooming today:. Golden alexanders, Zizia aurea. Honesty, Lunaria annua. First orange poppy, visible for a hundred feet or so. One of the many celandine poppies, with bleeding hearts. A lone allium (guess I need to plant these again). If that wa...
Greenish Thumb: Microgreen Smoothie Recipes

Sharing the thrill of the dig, the joy of the harvest, decadent eats, and profoundish musings along the way. Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Recently, I was a guest speaker at the Library of Congress. My talk was about how to grow and add microgreens to your diet. After the talk, one gentleman asked me if one could add microgreens to smoothies. The answer is you certainly can! This gentleman said he likes to make smoothies all the time. Superfood Warrior by urbanhydrogreens.com. 190; cup chocolate almond milk.
