December | musingsfromedge

https://musingsfromedge.wordpress.com/2014/12/10/december

December 10, 2014. New year for Edge committee starts on Saturday. We’ve two new members to replace Avis and Sue – coincidentally another Sue( treasurer again too) and Katie is now the secretary. The rest of us are the old irregulars,so to speak, a group that would seem at first notice to be deeply different but who have been a great mix of strengths and personalities – and all work so hard for Edge. I’m looking forward to it already. Nice Christmas thoughts to everyone! Why is Edge worth it? July 20, 2016.

https://musingsfromedge.wordpress.com/2014/11/01/why-is-edge-worth-it

November 1, 2014. Why is Edge worth it? At the end of my report at our AGM , I asked everyone to have a think about answering the question, “Why is Edge worth it? Here is what Jennifer (Hamshere) wrote as a response. 8216;It gives me lovely people with like minds to work with and discuss all sorts of things. We can use, and build on, the creative gifts we have and display the results through exhibitions.Through these exhibitions we can reach out to others.’. Sounds good to me.What do you think? April 26, 2014. Tomorrow we have Selection Day for “cutting : edge”. Even though we have had to be selected onto the group, there is still the constitutional requirement to have an exhibition selection as well. Having one of your best pieces that you’ve worked on for ages not chosen is awful and we have all at some time, had to bring a work home again. Main thing is… I am so looking forward to seeing what everyone submits. As I said, excitement mounts. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

….and September brings…. | musingsfromedge

https://musingsfromedge.wordpress.com/2014/09/14/and-september-brings

September 14, 2014. 8230;and September brings…. 8230;the daunting prospect of describing yourself and your work for presentation at a mentoring session. It’s almost like sitting an exam or having a job interview, and it’s been many years since I’ve had to do either! Sometimes, something as nippy as preparing for a mentoring session is a good thing after all. Just not too often, than you. Time for a cup of tea. Why is Edge worth it? Leave a Reply Cancel reply. My main interest is in exploring the use of fibres in feltmaking, and combining these with digital photography and stitchery. I find this a very expressive means of translating paint to fabric, retaining many of the painterly qualities in the felt and creating many different textures. Back to Members Gallery. The more I've researched and thought about Odysseus and Penelope the more intrigued I have become. How did the 10 years' journey home from Troy affect the charismatic / flawed / hero husband and his island-bound wife with dilemmas of her own? The result has become a series of 1.5 metre panels - and a really fulfilling project. Back to Members Gallery. Edge textile artists scotland. Promoting excellence in textiles. A childhood interest in textiles culminated in a buying career with a departmental store group where I worked with a variety of producers and crafts people around the world. The decisions made as the work progresses aim to find a simplicity that reveals the nature of the subject and my feelings of attachment to it. Back to Members Gallery. Edge textile artists scotland. PROTECTION (physical, spiritual and emotional), remains at the core of my work. The use of a limited palette of neutral colours is a recognisable quality of the work. Natural materials are predominant; linen, cotton, paper and wood, but not exclusive. I occasionally include wire, plastic, acrylics and wax. I have always been intrigued by print and text and am becoming increasingly happy to use paper as a more major element in my work. Back to Members Gallery. Edge textile artists scotland.

I continue to be inspired by the everyday - everyday people and everyday things. I am fascinated by people's stories. I use collage techniques where I layer, patch and piece different materials together with hand stitch. This is the most important part for me - there is something very personal about adding your mark with needle and thread. It is a slow, thoughtful process. The Purple Thread Shed - Ali Ferguson. Dave's a place, not a person, for what it's worth. Saturday, September 9, 2017. Why I love it here. Without further ado, the 2017 Westminster West Community Fair. It starts with a parade. Musings of a Miami girl living in Doha, Qatar. Doha as Character Building. May 10, 2015. By Alex bint Eisa. To those of you who I talk to on a regular basis, and/or read my twitter, you’ll know that I absolutely hate one of my professors. I have also always tended to believe that people tend to behave the way they do because they’ve never been made to do otherwise. Not too long ago I would always cower from confrontation. And though it still makes me super uncomfortable, I’m learning that most ...My most...

Participating in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge using a variety of topics. Tuesday, April 30, 2013. I’m a big fan of zebras. I just love seeing the contrast between the white skin and the black stripes, and thinking about how the patterns on zebras are as individual to them as fingerprints are to us. I love to see the alternating stripes of black and white in the hair of their manes. While very striking to look at, I will admit that zebras are a little boring to stitch. The stripes also serve to diss...

Monday, January 25, 2010. Minnesota Vikings Blame George W. Bush For Playoff Loss. Citing his failed response to Katrina, the presence of his father in Saints owner Tom Benson's private booth, as well as the fact that everything else seems to be his fault, the Minnesota Vikings today blamed their overtime NFC Championship loss to the New Orleans Saints on former President George W. musingsfromedge | Thoughts and ideas from one of Scotland's leading textile art communities

August 8, 2015. So …. we’ve spent months working out the best way to show this exhibition and working through all the little cracks and problems en route, but now all that is over. The theme of myths and legends has proved for some an awful hurdle and others had too many great ideas and starting points, it was hard to pin themselves down to a couple of their favourites. The result should ( and is, because I’ve had a sneeky peek at the images sent in) be yet another fascinating show. Hope you can make it.
