runner ramblings: June 2005

Musings about Life, the Universe, and Everything. Thursday, June 30, 2005. Be Careful of What You Wish for . No, I am not worried. It is fun to see him motivated, especially about something athletic. Right now I am going to just sit back and watch. Do what I can to help him keep it in perspective, let him do what he wants to do. Let him be what he wants to be, not what I want him to be. Musings about Life, the Universe, and Everything. Sunday, November 20, 2005. 5000 Nuts on the trail. With the temperature in the mid 30's, I was wondering if he had any more of what he had taken that morning (a friend told me that he asked the Native American if he had any more of what he was on. "You mean some peyote? He replied. It wouldn't have surprise me if it were true.). Will I run this race again? Yes, of course. I am not only a runner, but a little crazy. I figure I can probably beat my ...If yo...

Musings about Life, the Universe, and Everything. Thursday, November 24, 2005. Back to my Roots : Part 1. Since that was the worst that happened on the trip out, I am not going to complain. Any trip is going to have its rough spots. I think you just have to accept that, deal with them when they happened, and then move on to enjoy what you encounter next. Not an exciting trip, but that is OK. When I travel with my kids, the less excitement, the better. Posted by gym at 7:04 AM. Links to this post:. Congra...

Musings about Life, the Universe, and Everything. Monday, September 12, 2005. First sighting of 5P license plate. Saw my first 5P license this morning while I was driving to work. It was 5PLRxxx, so we are already half way through the letter. I want to record it here so I can connect a date with the sighting. Update: First sighting of a 5Rxxxxx took place on October 16, 2005 as I was driving home from the 2005 Relay. Posted by gym at 10:32 AM. Links to this post:. View my complete profile.

Musings about Life, the Universe, and Everything. Thursday, July 14, 2005. What I like in a fiction writer. The question for me right now is: Do I do some work and try to get a couple more bugs out of the program I am working on or do I write? Hmmm I guess you already know the answer: I write. So, what is it that I look for? I don't know how well I have achieved my goal here. I've never written about writing before. It's tough. It's tough to translate those ideas swimming around in my head to...Writes wh...

Mark's remarks: August 2010

http://foothillscrambler.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 20, 2010. Swell Season at the Mountain Winery - August 19. When they appeared on the schedule for the Mountain Winery, I knew that I’d find myself there somehow. My parents happened to be in town the same week and given their love of the venue, it was a slam dunk that had to happen. I felt as if this was venue was made for them given the intimate nature of their songs and interaction with the audience. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Swell Season at the Mountain Winery - August 19.

Mark's remarks: Hazards of Love - May 20th - Fox Theater

http://foothillscrambler.blogspot.com/2009/05/hazards-of-love-may-20th-fox-theater.html

Thursday, May 21, 2009. Hazards of Love - May 20th - Fox Theater. Last year (with a preview), to getting "The Rake" early off of i-tunes, to the NPR-recorded debut. At the SXSW musical festival to the Onion interview. To the Colbert Report appearance. There's been so much hype around this indie band that it would seem so easy for them to either implode or kill people off by over exposure. Yet I was excited as hell about this concert. Before I write about the concert itself, let me say that the Fox Theater.

Mark's remarks: Brandi Carlile at the Rio Theater June 23rd

http://foothillscrambler.blogspot.com/2008/06/brandi-carlisle-at-rio-theater-june.html

Tuesday, June 24, 2008. Brandi Carlile at the Rio Theater June 23rd. On a whim I decided to head down to Santa Cruz on a Monday night to take in a Brandi Carlile. Concert at the Rio Theater. Which is turning out to be one of my favorite venues. I caught Colin Meloy. There a couple months ago and was hoping to find another appealing act so I could make another visit. She turned out to be the one. As I came into the theater to the last half of the opening act, a giggly wisp of a girl named Priscilla Ahn.

http://foothillscrambler.blogspot.com/2008/10/fun-in-fall-in-wisconsin.html

Friday, October 10, 2008. Fun in the Fall in Wisconsin. I recently made a trip to Wisconsin, courtesy of IBM, for a recruiting trip to one the finest towns in all of the world, Madison. Here are some of the highlights of that trip. Night run out to Picn. After my night run out to the point I decided to check out the Madison music scene, following a recommendation given by a local section in the Onion. The recommendation for the night was the God Damns. Merican Player's Theater in. And one in the summer.

Mark's remarks: Year in Concerts 2010

http://foothillscrambler.blogspot.com/2011/01/year-in-concerts-2010.html

Monday, January 03, 2011. Year in Concerts 2010. I found some great music in 2010 on the live stage, once again patronizing the many “indie” venues in the bay area that we are fortunate to have. As I am accustomed to doing, here are write ups on five concerts that stood out for me (in no particular order). I’m glad they played: Travels and Trunks, Rio, Cigarettes. I wished they had played: Some more new songs. Will bring our new debates. And sing them for the magistrate. In groups of 4 or 8 or 12. That I...

Mark's remarks: May 2008

http://foothillscrambler.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 31, 2008. After looking through the latest movie ratings on metacritic, I decided to take a shot at Reprise. Since I had to head up to San Francisco to see it at Embarcadero one, I decided to make a nice Sunday out of it by combining it with a scenic run along the Marina. Reprise is a Norwegian film, which I think is the first I've ever seen of that Nationality. It takes place in Oslo and focuses on the literary and life aspirations of two friends played by Anders Danielsen Lie. The most co...

Monday, January 04, 2010. Year in Concerts 2009. 2009 turned out to be a slightly down scaled year for concerts, but I still had a chance to see some high quality shows, being fortunate enough to live in an area that is loaded with venues that embrace indie pop. While I had a great time at every show, these were the performances that stood out, in no particular order:. 8211; The Filmore. Continuing his prolific song output (He’s said that he’s put out roughly 900 songs! He delivered Life of the World.

The Way I See It | a means for me to channel my creative energy

A means for me to channel my creative energy. The Way I See It. My Break-Up with Camp. This is the first summer, since the age of six that I haven’t attended or worked at camp. Since going into first grade until going into fourth grade, I attended a day camp, then I had a six year stint at sleep away camp. But it wasn’t until returning to the same day camp as a staff member when I was going into eleventh grade did I truly find my home at summer camp. Day One on the Job: The Commute. I get to the subway a...

The Road Back to Running

The Road Back to Running. Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Volksläufe, Michigan - July 4, 2015. Anyone who has been following this blog for the past 12 months or more will remember this unique running festival that takes place in Michigan every year - I ran the 20K/5K double last year. There's Frankenmuth right near the middle of the pic. Not bad at all. The Clinton River trail provides quite the contrast to a 24-Hour Fitness treadmill. Milling around at the start I see last year's winner, Dani, who is now a prof...

Runner Ramblings | The journey is as important as the destination.

The journey is as important as the destination. A little background…. Wyoming – State #17. July 23, 2015. We had a fun crowd on board for our Wyoming adventure. Two of our nieces, Janille Baker and Sharon Conrad, had driven from Baker, Nevada and EskDale, Utah to join us. We checked out the cabin, and although small, it was clean and seemed to meet our needs, as well as giving us a flavor of “backcountry” Wyoming. Melodie presented her with a gift to mark the occasion. We stopped at Thayne Elementary Sch...

Runner Reborn

Enjoying Life, One Stride at a Time. Monday, October 1, 2012. 2012 Chicago Marathon Temperatures. It's looking like the Chicago Marathon will have some ideal temperatures for fast times this year (especially for this guy from Miami who hasn't run much in temps under the upper 70's.). Weather.com is predicting a low of 40° and high of 53°! Last year was a cool 65°F, so 15-20° cooler will feel downright chilly! Welcom to race week 2012. Recent hard workouts for reasons unknown. Wednesday, June 13, 2012.
