Propeller « Matt's RV-7 Project

Matt's RV-7 Project. One only needs two tools in life: WD-40 to make things go, and duct tape to make them stop.". Archive for the ‘Propeller’ Category. Mounted dummy prop hub. Sunday, January 24th, 2010. I primed the spinner backplate and doubler, then riveted them together:. I had to buy these spacers from Van's for five bucks each, since the dimensions aren't shown on the plans (and I don't have a lathe either). Just for grins, I threw the top cowl on there just to see how it looks. Pretty cool:.

Baffles « Matt's RV-7 Project

Matt's RV-7 Project. He attacked everything in life with a mix of extraordinary genius and naive incompetence, and it was often difficult to tell which was which.". Archive for the ‘Baffles’ Category. Laquo; Older Entries. Installed and sealed baffles. Monday, May 27th, 2013. One of the chores I'd put off earlier, since I knew I was going to have to remove the baffles to tear down the engine, was the messy job of sealing all the small gaps between the baffles and engine with RTV. When RTV has to go into ...

Matt's RV-7 Project. Genius is always allowed some leeway, once the hammer has been pried from its hands and the blood has been cleaned up.". Archive for the ‘Vertical Stabilizer’ Category. Laquo; Older Entries. Sunday, March 25th, 2007. I spent the whole day in the garage but didn't take many pictures. I guess I didn't actually get all that much accomplished – mostly I puttered and cleaned up the garage. It was great to be outside in the nice weather though. Thursday, August 10th, 2006. Matt's RV-7 Project. If you are going through hell, keep going.". Archive for the ‘Rudder’ Category. Laquo; Older Entries. Sunday, October 28th, 2012. I've been planning to put some kind of red flashing ground-recognition beacon on the airplane all along, and this weekend I finally got around to making it happen. For years I've been pondering exactly what kind of beacon I need and where to mount it – see here. The particular unit I picked is the Vertex. LED lighthead by Whelen. That has the added advanta...

Matt's RV-7 Project. Aeroplanes are not designed by science but by art, in spite of some pretence and humbug to the contrary.". Royal Aeronautical Society, 1922. May 25th, 2015. The last major firewall-forward wiring job is to connect the thermocouples that measure exhaust gas temperature (EGT) and cylinder head temperature (CHT). There's two probes per cylinder, so it ends up being a fair number of wires. Thermocouples… the red wire is the negative side! I made a little standoff out of a strip of 4130 s...

Chad and Bekah's RV-7. This site shows the years of construction, first flights, and the continued adventures of Chad and Bekah in our RV-7. Wednesday, March 11, 2015. 8220;Click Here” to watch videos. We had an unusually supreme day in the Northwest last Saturday. Taking advantage of this we decided to make a long cross country over the mountains and down into Oregon. The 2 hour flight to Sunriver was about as amazing of a flight that you can ever have in an RV. All in All was a terrific day! Places we ...

Chad and Bekah's RV-7. This site shows the years of construction, first flights, and the continued adventures of Chad and Bekah in our RV-7. Sunday, January 4, 2009. Tip Up v.s. Slider Canopy. This decision is a tough one that all builders must make. Luckily, like the landing gear configuration, I don't have to make this decision until I order the fuselage. I am currently leaning towards: Tip Up! Ease of access to Panel. Some think less sexy look. All in All, for now, Tip Up it is. Regards, Jason C.

Chad and Bekah's RV-7: Engine Choice

Chad and Bekah's RV-7. This site shows the years of construction, first flights, and the continued adventures of Chad and Bekah in our RV-7. Monday, January 5, 2009. The engine I ordered is about the highest end engine for the RV, outside of the 390's or the 200 hp angle valved engines. Its a high end, high horsepower (195 hp), mid sized (360 sized) engine. With this engine and prop combination that I am going with, as quoted by Larry Vetterman, I won't be "tail end Charlie". Below are the Specs:. Here i...

This blog contains my comments and my observations during the construction, maintenance, and flying the Van's RV-7. Flying the test phase. Thursday, July 30, 2009. Only issue I had was I still have high CHT's. In particular on #1 cylinder on initial climb-out , cruise CHT's. Were all fine and ranged from 360 to 375 with EGT. Oil consumption on the ECI. 0-360 is still good and I am about to add the first qt after about 20 hours after the oil change, the motor isalso. Running very smooth with the Landoll.

This blog contains my comments and my observations during the construction, maintenance, and flying the Van's RV-7. Flying the test phase. Wednesday, June 24, 2009. The worst damaged place was on both inboard sections and I concluded that this was exacerbated by the exhaust resonance vibrating the retaining wires. To correct this I bent the wires and locked them in place with a hinge lug screwed into the firewall flange, so far so good, we will see at the next oil change. Labels: Flying the RV-7.

Flying season is here so I am glad this is done. Managed to get all the mods I had in mind done this winter except connecting the trim position inputs to the Dynon so I will live with the LED indicators for a little longer. Thats about it for now. Building our airplane

Now in the works. I'm Mike Raviv, 61, retired Mechanical Engineer and quite active aviation enthusiast. I live in Nesher, Israel. For many years I planned to build an airplane, now I got the time to do it. This is a family project, with all family members trying to help as much as time allows them. You'll meet them all in the following pages. So I'll try to keep this site simple and efficient, with minimum time invested in it. As I said, I want to build an airplane, not websites.
