Slice of Pi: homeschool journal

Slice of Pi: homeschool journal. Thursday, April 21, 2011. For nature Wednesday a few weeks ago, we went to the Animal Shelter where our dogaphobic little girl fell in love with a. Friendly little handicapped puppy. It had a broken leg, and was being cared for by the staff there. Adrie begged and begged for days to take that puppy home. I still haven't heard the end of it. Like how those chicks will grow up to lay eggs in 6-8 weeks! They brought out a package of marshmallow Peeps for each of my kids!

Slice of Pi: homeschool journal: May 2009

http://www.sliceofpihomeschooljournal.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Slice of Pi: homeschool journal. Thursday, May 7, 2009. Did we really learn anything this year? Today is State Testing Day for Kate. I told her this would be her "last day" of the school-year which sounds very exciting to her. Really, it means that we will take off the month of May (she does have to catch up to finish 80% of math though.) I am looking forward to a month of no lesson plans. There is something. About getting out earlier than the other kids in the neighborhood! And as for Kate? She is more ...

http://www.sliceofpihomeschooljournal.blogspot.com/2010/10/go-go-go.html

Slice of Pi: homeschool journal. Saturday, October 9, 2010. Have I ever mentioned that we like to jump in the car and go on field trips? We've taken a few over the last month. First, and favorite: California beach camping trip. Tidepools, shell-collecting, seal watching - You can read more about it here on our family blog:. Http:/ sweetnsassy6.blogspot.com/2010/09/beach-bums-bigtime.html. Our Washington Online school had a free day at the zoo. We just had to take advantage of that! We sampled some mint l...

http://www.sliceofpihomeschooljournal.blogspot.com/2010/12/christmas-week-one.html

Slice of Pi: homeschool journal. Friday, December 17, 2010. Away with the school schedule! The next 2 weeks we are having Christmas fun every day. We always look forward to this part of our homeschool. Year We sat down on Monday with some idea books and wrote out all the things we wanted to do to lead us up to Christmas. Made caramel apples. What do these have to do with Christmas? The Night Before Christmas.". Wouldn't it be cool to memorize this? We made up our own (sung to the tune of "Happy Holidays").

Slice of Pi: homeschool journal. Monday, October 12, 2009. What did we learn at the end of the day? Today was one of those days that I wondered if anyone had learned anything. It seemed like everyone had a case of the not-wanting-to-do-anything disease. Does Mrs. Piggle Wiggle have a cure for that one? But, at the end of the day as I gathered their papers I realized that they must at least have. Thing in their heads. In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. The world is not flat. It is round. K12 is such ...

Six Boys and Me. Thursday, July 28, 2011. I think this particular lesson has been invaluable to me and boy am I using it right now! I have a cramp associated with parenting! Back in the old day this would be a signal to me that it's time to check out. With the help of my running parable I can see that now is the time to grit my teeth and dig in! Six Boys and Me. Thursday, December 1, 2011. I am accustomed to feeding his friends, they are welcome here. We have made it clear that we want him to feel comfortable inviting whomever to our home and we will make them feel welcome. He tested that by his choice of "friends" yesterday. The Cross Family: Field Trips Starting!

http://k12family.blogspot.com/2010/09/field-trips-starting.html

Monday, September 27, 2010. One thing I love about K12 are the fabulous field trips. There's already been a couple activities, but October will give us the opportunity for an outing pretty much every week. That's one of the greatest advantages homeschooling offers, isn't it? And K12 does it beautifully. For Charlie to see a cardiologist who specializes in Marfan's syndrom. Then on Wednesday both the boys will see their allergist for help with asthma and allergies. Then the zoo on Friday. School Effective...

The Cross Family: Book Review ~ The Unmotivated Child

http://k12family.blogspot.com/2010/11/book-review-unmotivated-child.html

Tuesday, November 2, 2010. Book Review The Unmotivated Child. The Unmotivated Child: Helping Your Underachiever Become a Successful Student. My rating: 4 of 5 stars. I've read a lot of parenting books and a lot of schooling books (I school my two boys at home) and I've finally found the book that describes my child. He didn't quite fit with the ADD profiles, nor any of the other psychological acronyms that would help me understand why my boy would break down in tears over a math problem. The Unmotivated ...

The Cross Family: Happy Mom Moments

http://k12family.blogspot.com/2010/11/happy-mom-moments.html

Monday, November 8, 2010. This weekend we attended a Bobby Lawrence Karate. Tournament. The boys have taken karate for four years, even David and I did it for a couple years. Xander has competed at each of the two tournaments every years since they started. And for the first couple years, Charlie competed too. When it came time for Charlie to perform, I held my breath. I wanted so much for him and was so afraid for him. His turn came up. And Charlie did GREAT. And, he won third place for self-defense!

The Cross Family: February 2009

http://k12family.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 26, 2009. I am absolutely thrilled to announce that the reading bug has finally bitten Charlie! Something you may not know about me: I am a wannabe author, a full time writer, a dreamer, a nut. But the good news is that my obsession puts me in touch with tons of awesome authors and sometimes I get to read their stuff before the average book-store going, library book borrowing person gets to read them. . Such was the case with Xander. A Door In The Woods, and said, "Here, try this.".

Monday, October 25, 2010. I finally figured out Order of Operations! All this time, and the order of operations was a mystery to me. I almost always got them wrong, and when I didn't, I had no idea how I did it. You're kind of forced to face your own demons and step waaaayyy outside your comfort zone in order to help your child. I've learned more about grammar than I even knew existed. (Shh. Yes, I'm a writer, but I didn't know what it was called when I left a participle dangling! But now I know that and.

Fulfilling my Namesake: Claiming Victory

Fulfilling my Namesake: Claiming Victory. Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Emerging defeated from Tuesday morning, I decided to stop at the library on my way home from work. I knew the book I was going to check out: the John Updike classic of "Rabbit, Run." I remembered reading it in my freshman year of college and I felt like I could really relate to it on this particular day. Rabbits are mutating into men, and I am not Rabbit Angstrom. Slice of Pie

Sunday, August 18, 2013. I know I have been a terrible blogger as of late. I think it means it is time to move on from this space. But a quick update, before I go. Last we met, I was thinking of going to the far away clinic to give it one more fresh cycle try. Well, that didn't happen. After reviewing the cost, even with our amazing full-coverage insurance, it would have been 15-20k out of pocket. Ouch, right? And with that, our family is complete. My fertility journey is over. A Slice of Pineapple. Thursday, October 11, 2012. My Last Lecture: Part 2. The Things We Learn Inside and Outside of School. I laughed as I wrote this second part of my lecture because I remember hating some of these subjects so much for so many different reasons.
