Thursday, April 2, 2009. Question: In the book "Making Literacy Real"  how was the teacher able to do all those field trips with her students, including overnight trips and trips that were long distances? Who paid for all of the trips? Comment:  I thought that it was a great idea that Ashley used  "I Spy with My Little Eye" to get the kids to look at the wrappers.  That would be a good idea for my project and having the kids look at the ad. Stephanie's Critical Literacy Blog: March 3 class

http://www.stephaniecl.blogspot.com/2009/03/march-3-class.html

Thursday, March 5, 2009. Question:  Is whole language connected to guided reading? Comment:  I really enjoyed Pedro Noguera talk.  He was a wonderful speaker and kept me engaged.  I thought what he said about gifted students was interesting.  He said  that a lot of time the reason students are concerned "gifted" is because their parents are their "gift."  All the help and support that their parents give is what makes them gifted. Stephanie's Critical Literacy Blog: February 17 classroom response

http://www.stephaniecl.blogspot.com/2009/02/february-17-classroom-response_18.html

Wednesday, February 18, 2009. February 17 classroom response. Are there any schools that teach through critical literacy? Comment: I loved how the podcast connected graphing.  . It really does make a difference when students are graphing real things that mean something to them. I had a connection to what was said in the class about how children who normally sat on the “outside” of the class, became a part of the class when the podcasts were being used in the classroom.  . Saturday, July 25, 2015. Sauvie Africa, 9"x12" oil. Sauvie Africa Reflections, 9"x12" oil. There is a place on Sauvie Island down a gravel road and through a cattle gate called "Africa" because it seems so remote and wild. Instead of wildebeests, cattle graze and gather under shady trees. The weather was cool and cloudy, a welcome relief from recent heat. Light stayed constant throughout the day, easier for plein air painting. I painted two studies, both on 9" x 12" canvas panels. 310 and 311 MC. April 28, 2010 in 311MC. We also decided that we did not need the stop motion section in the final.I thought it was much more sinister in terms of “we don’t know what happens next” sort of flow. I think it works better because during the critique, nobody bought up what happened next, people can assume their own endings which is a good thing in my opinion as we have left it open for own judgement. Editing is now completed and all we need to do is burn it on to disc! April 27, 2010 in 311MC.
