Running in the North. Midway between Lake Superior and Hudson Bay there's a mining town called Timmins. I'm a runner. I live in Timmins. These are my thoughts. Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Today I went to the sports medicine clinic for the first time. My trainer, "Rob" seemed to know what he was doing expertly testing and examining me. Have good reflexes and shows many signs of nerve blockage. I can strengthen it for now, which will help. Labels: Progress Report: 1/20/09. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Average Marathon Gal: March 2014
http://averagemarathongal.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
What it's like to be a back-of-the-pack marathoner. Training, fueling, motivation, gear, sneakers, and the occasional b*tch and moan session. 29 March, 2014. Outside exercise, woohoo! So rather than get myself to the gym today, I put on the long running pants and a soft shell fleece and went outside. 40f might not sound warm to some of you, but given our recent weather, and given the snow that's coming tonight, I figured best to take advantage of fairly clear streets and warm weather today. :-). And agai...

Gettin Older: June 2008
http://gettinolderss.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 20, 2008. Well, it appears that Cody does have a fungal infection in his lung. The Doctor prescribed oral Diflucan, but the insurance company said no. So, they have to go in and get IV medication. I cannot understand why insurance companies can say yes or not to the treatment a patient gets and I shudder to think about what would happen if the government got any more into the act. I'll climb down off my soapbox and an ask you to pray for Mickey and Cody and family. Wednesday, June 18, 2008.

Gettin Older: A way to make a difference
http://gettinolderss.blogspot.com/2008/11/way-to-make-difference.html
Sunday, November 23, 2008. A way to make a difference. However, all the preparation was feeling a bit empty because there has always been a philanthropic component to my marathon preparation. I had my first real distance running training and ran the Chicago marathon in 2005 with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. My training and fundraising was more personal when I ran in Houston in 2007. I ran for the American. Of a very aggressive. Cancer with everything they have. Is an "orphan" cancer; pharmaceutical...

The Road Back to Running: Volkslaufe, Michigan - July 4, 2014
http://runnerrachel.blogspot.com/2014/07/volkslaufe-michigan-july-4-2014.html
The Road Back to Running. Thursday, July 24, 2014. Volkslaufe, Michigan - July 4, 2014. The town of Frankenmuth is a bizarre little piece of Germany that is somehow located about 90 minutes' drive north of Detroit. It's as if an enormous forklift simply scooped up a quaint little village from deep in the Bavarian Alps and deposited it neatly in southeast Michigan - walking down the main street is like being transported back to 1985 when I was an exchange student in Ingolstadt. Hmmm, watch this space.

The Road Back to Running: Mother's Day Classic 10K, Canberra 2015
http://runnerrachel.blogspot.com/2015/05/mothers-day-classic-10k-canberra-2015.html
The Road Back to Running. Monday, May 25, 2015. Mother's Day Classic 10K, Canberra 2015. In the true spirit of May madness, I've decided to follow up the Boston/Big Sur double with another race just 2 weeks later. What could possibly go wrong? Previous Mother's Day races in Canberra:. 2012: I ran the 5K. 19:17 for 3rd OA female. 10K 2013: I ran the 10K. 39:19 for 3rd OA female. 10K 2014: I ran the 10K. 38:36 for 2nd OA female. Up, over, down, around, up over, down, around. Repeat. Our 4th race in a row w...

Average Marathon Gal: November 2013
http://averagemarathongal.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
What it's like to be a back-of-the-pack marathoner. Training, fueling, motivation, gear, sneakers, and the occasional b*tch and moan session. 30 November, 2013. I sit here still full from Thanksgiving (not the turkey dinner on Thursday, but rather our traditional Italian feast yesterday). All healthy stuff, well, maybe not all of it, but super yummy and we make this meal only 3 times a year (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter). Anyways, that's all to say that my run today was not very enjoyable. And if I do...

The Road Back to Running: November 2011
http://runnerrachel.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
The Road Back to Running. Thursday, November 10, 2011. Run4Fun, Sydney Olympic Park, November 2011. The Rebel Run4Fun 10K race is one I have run before in 2009. At the time I was running fairly low mileage and baby #2 had just turned 1, so I wasn't in the best running shape of my life and I ran it in 42:09. Being in the middle of a Pfitzinger marathon training cycle, I moved some runs around to accommodate the 10K race. This resulted in an all-time record for mileage over a 7 day period in the 10 day...
