Thursday, September 29, 2011. Cardiologist Follow Up Appointment. Well, today makes 4 weeks from the day Ethan had his Extra-cardiac Fontan surgery. Before we were discharged from UNC Children's Hospital, the cardiology team scheduled us a follow up appointment at the Raleigh Clinic (Wake Med's Heart Center). Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Feeding Plan and Discharge. A speech therapist came to observe one of his feedings and noticed that he was making some choking sounds when he was trying to eat. A Modified Barium Swallow Study was ordered and we discovered that about 1/3 of what Ethan was taking orally was not making it to his stomach - he was aspirating it into his lungs instead. Monday, August 17, 2009. Summary of Ethan's Journey. Ethan Skidmore, our fourth child, was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome at 19 weeks in utero. We were told he had it very severe and would require a series of three surgeries to make him a “half-heart” baby. I guess I just wanted to post a little update because I am just so proud of how far my little boy has come in this past year!
