Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Feeding Plan and Discharge. A speech therapist came to observe one of his feedings and noticed that he was making some choking sounds when he was trying to eat. A Modified Barium Swallow Study was ordered and we discovered that about 1/3 of what Ethan was taking orally was not making it to his stomach - he was aspirating it into his lungs instead. Monday, August 17, 2009. Summary of Ethan's Journey. Ethan Skidmore, our fourth child, was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome at 19 weeks in utero. We were told he had it very severe and would require a series of three surgeries to make him a “half-heart” baby.
