Ramblings....: Weight......the final result!
http://gikoncnsdr.blogspot.com/2008/06/weightthe-final-result.html
There are a few issues that I wish I had understood sooner. This is somewhere for me to share my views. You may not agree with me. That's just fine. Tuesday, June 10, 2008. Weight.the final result! Looking back through my blog, I see that 21 months ago I 'shared' my feelings about weight. (5th Sept. '06) See below. A few days ago I finally weighed it. I was lucky to be able to borrow a set up, which is normally used for weighing saloon cars being prepped for racing on the Nürburgring. Links to this post:.

Why did I choose an RV-4?: May 2006
http://gikonwhy4.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html
Why did I choose an RV-4? Real men fly taildraggers." The cognoscenti fly a -4, but if you can't fly taildraggers.learn! Friday, May 19, 2006. Why did I choose to build an RV4? Also, the nosewheel drags on soft ground. I guess its a nosedragger! The stall speed of the -4 is about 5 mph more than the -9A, so I am confident that with a little practice elsewhere, I will be able to operate the -4 safely from this strip. All the other VANS designs are quite a bit faster on approach. Yes, the white dots at the...

Fuselage: Tru Trak pitch servo
http://gikonfuse.blogspot.com/2007/11/tru-trak-pitch-servo.html
Thursday, November 08, 2007. Tru Trak pitch servo. After three weeks away travelling, its back to the -4. I installed the pitch servo. It is identical to the role servo, and presented equally well. To install it, you replace the standard VANS bellcrank brackets with a pair provided by True Trak. This just requires some careful de-riveting and then riveting the new pair in. They are extended behind the bulkhead to support the back end of the servo. Posted by Retro @ 8:27 AM. Comments: Post a Comment.

Empennage or 'tail feathers': So what have I done wrong here?
http://gikonemp.blogspot.com/2008/03/so-what-have-i-done-wrong-here.html
Empennage or 'tail feathers'. Friday, March 21, 2008. So what have I done wrong here? I am not sure what I have done wrong. Checking against the plans all seems correct, but there is a problem. If you put the rudder full right, the left hand rudder cable rides under the rudder stop. As the rudder moves back towards the centre it rides under the stop, but when the cable changes to the SS cable end it can hang up.It can be quite a bit more extreme than shown in this picture. Finish Kit: Painting II
http://gikonfinsh.blogspot.com/2007/10/painting-ii.html
Tuesday, October 09, 2007. At this point, as the -4 all became this matt 'stealth fighter gray', it looked good enough to stop right there. John had come armed with masks for much of the design on the tail, and the overly large British registration. The design is of a flag as you will see, that has made it through the prop, but become shredded on the way. With the speed of a -4 it is rapidly disintegrating! Here you see the rudder mask in place. Having started on a Tuesday, after a very long week of late...

Wings: March 2007
http://gikonwings.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 25, 2007. Fuel pipe from left tank. (Flop tube side.). The path from the left hand tank, if it contains a flop tube, into the fuselage, is not an easy one. As it snakes around the F-463 the pipe is clear of it at all times despite how it looks in the pictures. Beyond the fitting on the wall of the fuselage, I will continue in the FUSELAGE. Section of the blog. The second picture is from underneath. Posted by Retro @ 8:59 AM 2 comments. Links to this post. Wednesday, March 21, 2007. Are CS4-...

Finish Kit: Fitting the engine cowls...cont.....
http://gikonfinsh.blogspot.com/2007/07/fitting-engine-cowlscont.html
Wednesday, July 25, 2007. Fitting the engine cowls.cont. Fiberglass dust isn't much fun but the cowl is coming together in more senses than one. The plans don't make it clear but when you come to add the lower cowl you have very little freedom at the rear because the upper corners have to snuggle up under the cowl cheeks. Their position was determined by the upper cowl. I had to trim about 1 1/8 th. At the rear and 5/8 th. The result of this is the cowl sits slightly low, wrt. Posted by Retro @ 10:39 am.

Finish Kit: Setting up to glue the canopy
http://gikonfinsh.blogspot.com/2007/05/setting-up-to-glue-canopy.html
Sunday, May 20, 2007. Setting up to glue the canopy. The canopy has been trimmed with 1/8 th. Inch spacers installed, to allow for Sikaflex. In the joints. Compared with the -9A I built, there is very little excess material on the RV4 canopy. It would not be a problem if I planned to rivet it on, but since it is to be glued, I had to be very cautious in the area to the left/right of the pilots shoulders. And the fuse skin. So in case it sags feel I will have much better control with it this way up.

Empennage or 'tail feathers': Fitting the elevators
http://gikonemp.blogspot.com/2006/12/fitting-elevators.html
Empennage or 'tail feathers'. Sunday, December 31, 2006. I have put the elevators on and off more times than I care to remember in the last few days. Sometimes I get the bolts in quite easily, other times it takes 10 minutes per bolt. The good news for me is that it is finally all coming together. I have shaved the HS skin until I finally have just more than the minimums, for elevator deflection. The lead is installed. Because I have the heavier gauge. Labels: HS Elevators weight.
