A college student's quest to run long and live healthfully. Why I became a vegetarian…and why you should too →. So where’s the funny part of this story? I saw these women later after the race as I waited to collect my trophy. They were talking to their husbands and I overheard how they had run this race over six minutes slower than they had just three weeks ago. These women looked like fairly experienced runners, so why had they struggled so much? Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

A college student's quest to run long and live healthfully. Thankful for: Pumpkin Pie. I don’t know about you, but I LOVE pumpkin pie. I think the mixture of spices and creamy pumpkin is heaven sent. That’s why I’m so glad my older sister came up with a healthy version of it! These are absolutely some of my favorites. Definitely worth the time to make! Check out this blog post she wrote back in 2012. The recipe is at the bottom. Recipe: Pumpkin Pie Squares. Remembered my notebook and pen! 1 cup almond fl...

A college student's quest to run long and live healthfully. Thankful for: Thanksgiving →. Thankful for: Sweet Potatoes. Those are just a few things on my thankful list…what are yours? Oh, I almost forgot to mention I’m thankful for food…the way it brings us together and how it has the ability to change and help our bodies. Here’s how I made mine yesterday, I think you’ll find this recipe to be easy and fast, but better than the traditional butter/sugar-drenched version found on many tables. When I was li...

A college student's quest to run long and live healthfully. Newer posts →. I love living in the South, I really do. There are certain things, however that I will never fully understand or endorse, one of which is the South’s sweet tea obsession. When it comes to your favorite drinks or foods, look at the original source it came from…how many steps was it processed? What was added to it along the way? If you are partial to sweet tea, I’d heartily suggest you stop drinking it immediately. Instead...Part tw...

A college student's quest to run long and live healthfully. Thankful for: Sweet Potatoes →. I love it when a chance to brighten someone else’s day happens unexpectedly, especially through the channel of running. The neat thing about the race though, were the prizes. Both Aaron and I won 15lb. turkeys for our efforts. It was the first time in the race’s history that both winner were vegetarians. Run hard, Eat o. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. A commentary on the ways and wonders of the Windy City. Newer posts →. November 17, 2013. The original grid pattern used the Chicago River as its baseline. However, a grid patterned off of a curving, winding river is doomed to failure. Addresses were inconsistent, and there were often multiple names for the same street, making navigation a difficult task. When my plane lands, I make my way out of the airport, hop in a car and follow Cicero Avenue straight south to the suburbs. One easy right onto 147...

Down the Rabbit Hole. Classic books every child should read. Newer posts →. November 23, 2013. 8220;Rain Makes Applesauce” is the silliest book I have ever read and I love it. It’s a poem that makes no sense accompanied by the most incredible and interesting pictures. This book fed my imagination, not as a child, but as a 19 year-old college student. (Kind of weird, I know.) My coworker found it in our library and made me sit down and read it. I am so glad she did! November 23, 2013. November 16, 2013.

Down the Rabbit Hole. Classic books every child should read. A Sick Day for Amos McGee. December 7, 2013. 8220;Goodnight Moon” is a classic, classic children’s book. Down the Rabbit Hole. Classic books every child should read. Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy’s Parade →. The Second-Best Children in the World. November 30, 2013. When they arrive, the parents tell their children that they are the best children in the world because they wanted to make their parents happy. But the kids don’t agree–if they did, they would be snobby children. So, they decide they are the second best children in the world. My future mother-in-law was right :).

Down the Rabbit Hole. Classic books every child should read. Frog and Toad Together. The Second-Best Children in the World →. November 29, 2013. I am spending Thanksgiving week at my future in-laws house. One of my mother-in-law’s favorite books is “Love You Forever.” Its a really sweet book about a mother’s love for her son no matter what he did or how old he got. Why do runners gain weight? August 21, 2016. I do think that it is important to keep a daily food diary. The calories that we do not burn during the day are stored as fat. There are several web sites and apps to keep a daily calorie count. A couple of good examples are the MyFitnessPal app for smartphones and SuperTracker. 8220;Man imposes his own limitations, don’t set any”. January 27, 2016. February 7, 2016. Running on Octane
Week 08 - Less Than 50 Days to Go! Onto the highlights of the week…. For the long run, I was back up in Greenville. Since I had a somewhat low cadence average from the long ride, my quads felt like lead. I’m sure the fact that riding for that long attributed to it, but I had plenty of low cadence efforts strewn throughout the ride so I had a hunch it would come back to bite me later. There was a fellow along the trail that was offering water and Nuun. The water was great because it was cold. Week 09 - 2n...

Running on One Good Hip. Thoughts and pictures from a running Librarian. Proud owner of 1 broken hip from 2014. Race, Rest, Race, Rest, Race…. August 2, 2015. August 2, 2015. I’ve not ran in a week since Thunder Run 24. Before Thunder Run I had a slight thigh strain that I would class as a discomfort. Running on Peanut Butter. Just a Handful of Questions Because It’s Thursday. August 13, 2015. By Running on Peanut Butter. I’m not sure if the end of the work week has flown by or what, but it’s almost here and I cannot wait. Since I’ve had a bit of a busy week with my evenings, I figured today would be a fun day to do the survey that Jessie of Jessie Loves 2 Run. Did at the beginning of the week.
